The 6 Steps to Exercise Englightenment

Cassey from Blogilates wrote an awesome post called “The 6 Steps to Exercise Enlightenment” and I just had to repost it because it resonated with me so much!

  • LEVEL 1: I work out because an authoritative figure (PE teacher, doctor, etc.) forces me to.
In this stage, individual would never work out if it were up to their own choosing. They despise exercising.
  • LEVEL 2: I work out because I want to change my body.
Individual desires a physical change for any reason.
  • LEVEL 3: I work out because I want to get stronger! Run faster! Be more flexible!
Individual shifts focus from sculpting physical attributes to developing skill and talent.
  • LEVEL 4: I workout to nurture my health.
Individual focuses on exercise for longevity, disease prevention, and overall health and wellness.
  • LEVEL 5: I work out because it brings me happiness.
Individual exercises because they simply enjoy it.
  • Level 6: I work out because it inspires others to choose a healthier lifestyle.
Individual serves as a role model to others through working out. At this stage, individual may also be in a position to influence the fitness industry by developing exercise formats to help more people work out.

The 6 Steps to Exercise Englightenment: Make Myself Shine

Fitness and I have been in a committed and consistent relation for over 4 years now (shhh, don’t tell Boyfriend) and I’ve come so far from where I first started. I have to admit I still workout to look good because I’m vain and proud like that, but fitness and exercise truly makes me happy, healthy and strong and it makes me feel so empowered— I love it! I countdown the hours to the gym and my bike rides, I have loads of fun planning my weekly workouts on Sunday nights. Fitness has infectiously motivated me in all areas of life. I love reading and writing about health and fitness and spreading the motivation because without other fitness bloggers, I would not be where I am today! After 4 years of blood, sweat and tears (yep, really), I’m proud to say that I’ve “achieved” all 6 steps of exercise enlightenment!

What level are you on? If you aren’t at the level you want to be at, are you coming up with a game plan to get there?

My background is in tech but now I am an expert on productivity-hacking, motivation, accountability, coaching, nutrition, and living a happy yet disciplined and committed lifestyle— and I’ve been doing so “effortlessly” for well over 10 years.

After years of studying and applying this skill we call DISCIPLINE, I’ve learned how important it is to be consistent to inspire others through implementing and cultivating good habits.

This is my journal and honestly I write but I rarely proofread. I don’t have time, and I gave up perfection a long time ago. I have been practicing this art of putting my thoughts on paper (or the web) since my mom gave me my first diary when I learned how to write. Just like my life, this journal is not perfect.
