Just Another Fitness Mantra

Today when I was in a lot of pain doing a leg circuit that included heavy Front Squats, Sumo Squats, Step Ups and Wall Sits, I kept on reminding myself that it was suppose to feel like this. My legs were suppose to burn. My muscles were suppose to be tired. I was suppose to be in pain.

Tell yourself:

It’s suppose to feel like this!!

Before you use this mantra, remember that there are different types of pain you may experience during exercise:

  1. Pain from effort that’s suppose to happen— when you are just so tired and you aren’t sure if you can push on anymore. This pain can be physical or mental but it’s the good pain that means your body is working hard.
  2. Pain where your body is telling you to stop before you do anymore damage because it maybe associated with an injury. If you are feeling and sharp, intense or chronic pain, stop what you are doing and focus on fixing that problem before continuing your workout.

Make sure you can tell between these two different kinds of pain or you’ll be forced to suspend training until you can nurse that injury. Mantras work so next time, try using one to push yourself even harder!

My background is in tech but now I am an expert on productivity-hacking, motivation, accountability, coaching, nutrition, and living a happy yet disciplined and committed lifestyle— and I’ve been doing so “effortlessly” for well over 10 years.

After years of studying and applying this skill we call DISCIPLINE, I’ve learned how important it is to be consistent to inspire others through implementing and cultivating good habits.

This is my journal and honestly I write but I rarely proofread. I don’t have time, and I gave up perfection a long time ago. I have been practicing this art of putting my thoughts on paper (or the web) since my mom gave me my first diary when I learned how to write. Just like my life, this journal is not perfect.
