Some Boring Updates

Yesterday, Boyfriend and I were driving around Port Coquitlam burning time and looking for a place to eat. We ended up going to Hon’s because we are indecisive and picky and wanted Asian food so we always end up choosing sh!tho places (the only other Asian place around was a Pho Hoa and 24-hour pho places are nastayyy!). Anyway, that got me thinking when I saw all the Caucasian people there; most of them only know these kinds of Chinese restaurants (think Hons, No.9, King’s Garden etc.) so is that what Chinese food is to them?! That’s a shame because the food there is literally … crap? All the GOOD Chinese food are the dishes served at huge restaurants like Sun Sui Wah, Kirins, etc.; well the ones that I like anyway. There are times when you crave for food from GOOD noodle houses (like Tsim Chai Noodle House on Westminister Hwy in Richmond, across from RPM) but you can’t eat THAT much of that stuff all the time. Wait… can you?

But yeah, Hon’s was terrible and we totally consumed unnecessary and unsatisfactory calories and MSG (grrr!). I went on that electrocuting-treadmill again yesterday morning for nothing (I never learn). Speaking of the gym, the music was skipping and the staff usually doesn’t come in until 11am on Saturdays so I had to endure 3 hours of NeYo going… nu-nu-nu-nu-nu-nu-nu-nu-nu.

Good news! Boyfriend wants to go to the states soon and that means I get to buy more jeans. Woot! I wasn’t planning to go until July/August because I really need to stop spending until I get a new closet but I guess I can’t now. Harharhar.

In our “backyard-beach” at Tofino ’06.

The girls and I are going down to the Oregon Coast as our weekend-and-a-couple-of-days trip this summer! We usually go to Tofino but wanted to go somewhere else and chose Oregon because it’s within driving distance, the coast is beautiful and of course, shopping tax-free! Hopefully the planning this year will go smoothly unlike last year. Planning is sooo damn frustrating (and maybe people who no patience shouldn’t be doing it… LOL). The first year N & I came up with the idea of going to Tofino with just the girls, I didn’t really think it would actually happen because it’s so hard getting everyone together at the same time (especially for a couple of days!) but we actually succeeded by planning months ahead, so it’s always worth it in the end.

LAWLS!

I almost said “LOL” out loud yesterday!

So Boyfriend was saying something about the PS3 he bought out of nowhere and I almost answered with a, “Lol, why?” Lol as in LOL… not L-O-L.

LOL lol lol! How embarassing. I can totally see myself saying it during a meeting at work or something just because I’m going to keep on thinking about it now.

But anyway, Boyfriend just bought a 80gb PS3 out of the blue which was a total waste of money in my opinion (but at least he got it for half price). It’s funny because my sister and I use to get videogame consoles for free/as gifts (my mom even got 3 xBoxes from her company when they came out) and I actually played them but now when we actually have to pay for them, the Wii’s and 360′s and a billion games are just sitting around collecting dust. Who has time to play videogames nowadays (just kidding, I don’t wanna get fired).

There’s a brand new, top of the line Macbook Pro available to me for only $1200. Oh-em-gee… should I take it?! I had a chance to get a brand new iMac with a 24″ screen last year and I didn’t take it. Sure I don’t need a laptop but I’m usually so good at wasting money and buying stuff I don’t need. Why am I so stupid and still contemplating?

Surpass Hosting

For those of you looking for cheap, affordable hosting:

Surpass Hosting is having their One Love II Sale. I’ve heard a lot of good [and bad] things about Surpass so this is a good way to try out their services, and you can be the judge. But $1 for hosting? Hell yeah.

In celebration of Valentine’s Day we are offering this sale from 2/14/08 until 2/28/08. You can purchase the Power shared hosting plan and only pay $1 for the entire year! After the year is up the normal yearly payment cycle for that plan will begin. And a year is so forever from now. Remember that the Surpass service and support will be the same as it always has been!

It’s a good deal but I’m going to stick with Hasweb because they have superb service and I don’t want to go through the trouble of switching servers. :D

The Internet of ’96

The internet in 1996 looks like it had been created in its entirety by a panel of 13-year-olds with Geocities accounts who had about half an hour to spare each night before bedtime.

Aww! Geocities! Those were good page-builder-on-28kb/s-dial-up-connection times. Maybe I should thank god that I started “using” the internet in 1998 because even my very first website looked a lot better than any of those. I was 9-years-old and it was a Backstreet Boys fan page.

Ultra Thin, Ultra Light, Ultra Useless

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the anticipated release of the Macbook Air.

Macbook Air

“MacBook Air is ultrathin, ultraportable, and ultra unlike anything else. But you don’t lose inches and pounds overnight. It’s the result of rethinking conventions. Of multiple wireless innovations. And of breakthrough design. With MacBook Air, mobile computing suddenly has a new standard.”

Macbook Air

Here is a hell of a sexy piece of technology but too bad it’s obviously only catered to a certain market. Let’s list the cons since the only pros are that it is thin and lightweight:

  • One USB port. You plugin your mouse but what if you have a USB flash drive?
  • Expensive; it’s frigging sexy but totally not worth it. I wish I did but I don’t have spare cash change lying around to splurge one this when I can get something better (eg. an actual Macbook Pro).
  • Battery isn’t replaceable. Again, if only I was a richass, then this wouldn’t be a problem. Plus the battery life isn’t too remarkable either.
  • No memory upgrade. 2GBS is nice but you could never have enough RAM.
  • No optical disc drive.
  • No memory card slots.

Macbook Air

Would you trade in some necessary features for the thiness of the laptop? Hells no! God, you guys are so vain (just kidding, I shouldn’t talk). If I were to get a laptop (which I don’t need right now), I totally wouldn’t waste my money on this. I have my PC right now (for designing AND gaming) but I don’t think I’ll be needing a laptop until I’m freelancing full time and when that happens, I’ll be getting a Macbook Pro or whatever new systems Apple comes out with. Plus I’ll buy myself a nice Mac desktop too (but I’ll still keep a PC around for playing games).

In conclusion, if I were a rich bitch then I’d totally get this … but I’m not and I’d rather spend that money on denim and books.

Speaking about Macs, I came across this link and I’m sooo guilty. The funny thing is that I don’t even own a Mac. Hahahahaha. I’ve never had a Mac crash on me before. Wait. There was this one time when I made this ridiculously humongous Illustrator file that was over 80mb for a typography project and THAT is freaking HUGE for Illustrator. Yes, that is my only story of a Mac-crash. Anyway, Macs rule and PCs drool (sometimes)!
