Annabelle Cosmetics is one of my favorite drugstore brands and they recently introduced their mineral makeup line which is just in time for summer! Mineral is definitely the way to go in the sweltering heat because it’s usually light and offers buildable coverage.

Mineral Powder Foundation – Feels light on the skin, offers light to medium coverage, depending on how much you use and has a natural and dewy finish. Only 4 shades and I was sent Barely Beige which is obviously too light for me during the summer but I tested it a couple of weeks ago when I was paler and I liked the outcome. I will definitely use this once I find the right shade.

Mineral Powder Blush – Extremely pigmented so you don’t need much product for a pink glow. I’m more of a bronzer girl so I don’t have much to say about this, but I do love the color I got (Sugar Rush).

Mineral Powder Bronzer - I LOVE this bronzing powder! It only comes in one shade, Terra, but it gives you a healthy tanned glow and you can gradually build up the intensity. It’s very pigmented so only start with a little bit. It also doesn’t doesn’t give you nasty BRIGHT ORANGE spots on your cheeks like I see on a lot of girls at the clubs… the color is more brownish which looks more like a natural tan. Also great for contouring and creating shadows because it has a matte texture. Although I loved this bronzer, it won’t be one I use daily because it’s not convenient to carry around in my purse since it’s powder. Boo.

Mineral Pigment Dust – Light but beautiful and pigmented colors, very shimmery, easily buildable for intensity and lasts all day. Comes in a cute little container that doesn’t create as much mess than ones most pigment powders come in but the hole needs to be bigger so my brushes can fit into it.

A-12 Blush Brush – Round blush brush that is made of premium goat hair. Not the softest brush I’ve ever used but it does blend nicely.

Volumelip Lip Plumping Gloss - Received Sweet Tweet and Cherryoké. Loved Sweet Tweet which was a light pink color but I couldn’t wear Cherryoké because it was too red for me. I totally envy girls who can pull off bright red lips! Formula is light, isn’t sticky at all (huge plus) and hydrates your lips but not as much as Marcelle’s Vita-Lip Plumping Gloss which they sent me a while back (and was nice enough to replace one when I lost my favorite shade!). My lip was already plump from Vita-Lip so I’ll have to test out Volumelip’s plumping action some other time. Comes in 5 gorgeous shades and I can’t wait to get Metro Mango!

Although I’m not a huge fan of the built-in brush because it’s too rough, I find it really convenient so that I don’t have to carry so many makeup and tools around with me everywhere. Too bad the shade I got is going to be too light for my skin soon since I started tanning again.

Marcelle Minerals Powder Blush – The brush doesn’t blend the blush well with your skin and the shade I asked for (Pink Glow) is a little too dark for my skin but hopefully it’ll blend better once I’m not so white-and-pasty anymore.

Marcelle Vita-Lip Plumping Gloss – I reviewed this product back in November but never really tested it’s plumping effects. You have to use this continuously to see any plumping effects and let me tell you, IT WORKS! I love love LOVE this lip gloss and on top of that, it’s not sticky and leaves stuff on your lips. Just don’t accidently get any on the skin around your lips or else it’ll be red for a couple of days.

Marcelle Minerals Eye Shadow – This comes in a little tube with a convenient brush and is pretty pigmented. I got it in “Graphite” which is great for the smokey-look but I needed to use a base (UDPP) to make it last and really make the color pop [to my satisfaction].

Here’s my 9700 review after using it for about a month. Note, this Blackberry is also known as the “Bold 2.” I upgraded to this from the Javelin.

Pros:

Faster! The web browsing is faster but nothing to “wow” about compared to my old Javelin on a 2G network. Apps like Ubertwitter and receiving files on BBM are a lot faster though.

Trackpad!! I was playing around with Boyfriend’s Blackberry the other day and the trackball felt so weird… can’t imagine ever using it again.

My fat fingers are no longer an issue! Better keyboard than the Javelin (but I still like the 8320 Curve’s better).

Text messages are linked … BBM style!

SPEAKERS ARE AMAZING! Well compared to older Blackberry models and even my 3rd generation iPod touch.

Battery life is a HUGE improvement.

It’s compatible with the Javelin’s micro-USB ports so I don’t have to replace any accessories since I have a gazillion chargers lying around everywhere (home, work, Boyfriend’s, car, etc.). My biggest fear is a dying Blackberry.

Awesome resolution and bright screen.

It’s the perfect size, which is the same as the Javelin but smaller than the chunky [original] Bold.

Cons:

Leather backing looks tacky.

Can’t seem to set my right convenience key to show ALL “messages” like I usually do with older Blackberry models. Right now, I can only set it to SMS/MMS OR Messages (BBM/email/etc) and not both. Am I missing something?

I love how text messages are linked in a chat like BBM but I always forget that I’m texting someone and send them a billion in a row which they probably want to punch me in the face for.

My calendar alerts can’t seem to be silenced even though it’s set in my profiles.

Rating: 9/10
I only wish there was a bigger screen. I have to admit the numbers are biased because I’ll always give Blackberries a high score.

Just thought I’d do a quick review of the Blackberry Javelin 8900 since I just switched the the 9700. I’ve been using this phone for about 7 months, upgrading from the 8320 which was a huge difference.

Yes, there was a boyband on my home screen.

Pros:

Nice and upgraded interface.

Small, compact and light; it’s the perfect size.

Has Wifi and GPS.

Vivid display and sharp sound.

Cons:

Not as fast since it’s on a 2G network.

Keyboard isn’t as good as the one on the 8320 (which is still the best Blackberry keyboard to date).

Camera still isn’t anything to rave about but it’s a HUGE improvement from the 8320. I don’t use it for anything other than Twitpics anyway so it doesn’t matter much to me.

Rating: 8/10

I think the 8900 was a great phone although it would’ve been a lot better if it had 3G.

Anyway, I finally switched the the 9700 after it’s been sitting in it’s box in Boyfriend’s closet for the past two weeks and I love it! I’ll do a review after I’ve used it for a couple weeks. I also switched over to Rogers after being on Fido for over 10 years just to save about $15/month on my plan. My new plan is exactly $53/month after taxes with: 500GB of data, 100 daytime minutes, unlimited local and network calling and evenings/weekends, caller display/voicemail/etc. It’s almost the exact same plan I had on Fido excluding unlimited text messaging which I was paying $65-$72/month for but after all my friends got Blackberries, no one text messages anymore. Edit– nevermind I just realized I do get unlimited texting.

Now the question is how I’m going to pimp out my new Bold?! I was about to order another full-white casing for it because I refuse to have the black one just like everyone else but I had second thoughts because I had a white Blackberry for the past 8 months. Should I go for another color? Hrm.

Which Blackberry model are you using and how much are you paying monthly?

I was sent some Marcelle make-up products which I was uber excited about because I’ve always loved their skincare line. It’s great to support a Canadian company too because well you know… all our companies end up getting sold to an American one.

This fall Marcelle® Cosmetics innovates again and offers a wider variety of eye products. This new line will satisfy the need of every woman, whether she is looking for a glamorous, urban or more classic look. The Fall 2009 campaign presents 3 models with 3 different looks: Classic Elegant, Ultra-Glam and Urban Chic.

Wet & Dry Eyeshadow Quad: Versatile eye shadows to suit your every mood.
This quad comes in some beautiful shades and I received one in Blue Moon. It’s not as pigmented as I’d like it to be; without a good base, it would be hard to get a good color pay-off when applied dry, HOWEVER it did give off an intense color when applied wet. You do need to build it up quite a bit though.

Concealer Palette: The simple art of camouflage.
I love this concealer palette! It blended easily with my skin tone by mixing the 4 different shades. My only complain is the useless brush which was too small to do anything with.

Vita-Lip Plumping Gloss in Nude (with flash)

Vita-Lip Plumping Gloss: The ideal plumping treat for your lips!
I love this gloss because it was shiny, non-sticky and enriched with vitamin E but the staying-power was a little disappointing. As for the plumping part? This is suppose to increase your lip’s volume by 11% and suprisingly it doesn’t have that tingly sensation that comes with most plumping glosses. I’m eating a super-spicy gumbo dish right now so my lips feel hella “plump” already so I’d have to get back to you on that. Edit – Plumps? YES! I can’t compare it to other glosses though because I never had to use them.

Liquid Eyeliner Pen: A glamorous look in high-definition.
Goes on smooth and extremely easy to apply. I use to use liquid liners religiously in high school but switched to Mac’s Fluidline gel-liner and never went back again. Although, after using Marcelle’s Liquid Eyeliner Pen, I might just go back and use it occasionally. It’s much more convenient carrying this in my make-up bag than a pot of Fluidline and a eyeliner brush. I was wearing this during an intense cardio session and although it did smudge (Fluidline never smudges on me, even 2 hours in a hot tub!), it did okay for a non-waterproof liquid eyeliner. Yes, I sweat buckets.

Khol Eyeliner: Make a statement or keep it subtle, this eyeliner pencil makes your every wish come true.
This pencil liner wasn’t pigmented enough and was actually a little hard to apply (had to tug on my lids a little bit). They also sent me the non-waterproof version so there is no way I can use it on a day-to-day basis.

Volume Precision Mascara: High definition volume
Didn’t work on my non-existent Asian eyelashes, but it has pretty good reviews on Make-Up Alley so it maybe worth trying out if you have naturally “nice” eyelashes (like that of Caucasians, Indians, etc). No offense my fellow Chinese people but our eyelashes usually sucks a$s.

Anyway, if you’d like to win a brand new set of all these Marcelle products for FREE just leave a comment and I’ll draw the winner next week.

I don’t wear mascara as much anymore because I haven’t found a mascara that works so I prefer falsies. Last week, I got my hands on a couple tubes of Maybelline’s new Pulse Perfection mascara though.

Maybelline Pulse Perfection Mascara is a revolutionary, vibrating mascara that grips and coats your eye lashes using a battery powered Turbo Equilizer wand.

Priced much more affordably then it’s competitions, Maybelline Pulse Perfection Mascara allows you to create the 7 signs of lash perfection – Thicker, Longer, Defined, Intense Colour, Shapely Curve, Healthy Luster, and Perfect Alignment!

It vibrates 7,000 times per stroke and the battery is suppose to last a minimum of 130 applications or just over four months. The concept is sounds good but does it really work? I used my sister’s pictures to test the mascara for this entry …because she has longer lashes than mine. Hyukhyukhyuk.

Things to keep in mind:

We’re Chinese so this review is a little biased.

Chinese people don’t have eye lashes (well we do but they’re usually short and stick straight, so that basically translates to they don’t exist).

*Lashes were curled before mascara was applied.

Maybelline Pulse Perfection Mascara

Easy-to-use but fingers get tired after pressing the tiny button for a long time (if you’re one of those people who likes to apply tons of coats).

Thickens and lengthens with 3-4 coats.

Makes your already-curled lashes go straight again. (-)

Vibrating makes mascara prone to CLUMP-AGE even though they say it doesn’t. Keep your lash combs in hand! (-)

Can retain similar results to Majolica Majorca with a few more coats and if lashes were curled again. But that’s one extra-step for the uber lazy.

Results are good but still prefer Majorca Majolica.

Here are shots with her favorite mascara, Majolica Majorca.

Thickens, lengthens, minor clumping and retains curl.

Clearly the winner but the problem with this is that it’s hard to get in North America.

I gave some to my girlfriends to try it out too and they had similar comments. The final verdict is that Maybelline Pulse Perfection could be a good mascara— if you don’t suffer from no-lash syndrome like us poor Asians. If you’re Caucasian, Indian, Middle Eastern, etc. etc., who are already blessed with long, thick and curly lashes then this mascara might give you good results and worth trying out since it DOES thicken and lengthen.

Good mascaras are hard to find and it really depends on the person. Would I buy this mascara for $15? Probably not.

I’ve given up my mascara quest years ago so nothing beats plain old Ardell falsies. ♥ Looks exactly like all mascara ads out there (with fake eyelashes on the models and all). BUT on my lazy days when I do wear mascara, I use Lancome L’Extreme (which still isn’t perfect).

Have you tried Maybelline Pulse Perfection? What did you think?

What’s your favorite mascara?

And just for the record, vibrating mascaras are NOT scary! Why do people get all freaked out? It’s not like it’s an epilator or something.

WARNING: MSG OVERLOAD!!!

I’m ALWAYS raving about Phnom Penh, an authentic Vietnamese/Cambodian restaurant located in Vancouver’s Chinatown. This time I can actually write about it because I have FOOD pictures thanks to my sister (since I have this thing where I don’t like taking food pics while I eat). The pictures don’t do justice at all and was taken with a Blackberry in really bad lighting. I’ll update this entry with better pictures in the future because I think Phnom Penh deserves awesomely-delicious food pictures and not brought to shame with crappy visuals.

FILET BEEF ON RICE – Everyone goes to Phnom Penh for the chicken wings but I go there for the Bo Luc La a.k.a. filet beef. I wish Boyfriend’s mom would cook this at home everyday then I’d set up a tent in their kitchen… um, or just a futon.

BUTTER BEEF – Another one of my favorites. This is like beef sashimi— deliciously-cooked rare beef in an equally delicious sauce and topped with loads of cilantro and fried garlic. See that missing piece? Jimmy Chu says not to be too hasty, but I was too hasty.

CHICKEN WINGS – Phnom Penh is famous for their chicken wings and I’ve gotten countless people addicted to it. Mind you, I’m not even a huge fan of deep-fried chicken but I am when I go to Phnom Penh.

FROG LEGS – We wanted to order something we’ve never had so this was my first time eating frog legs and they (a.k.a. everyone who eats frog legs) were right! It tastes exactly like chicken… maybe even better than chicken!

CLAMS – The clams are so good! I forgot what they were cooked in but I eat them like I was eat M&M’s; I just kept popping them into my mouth. I think we got jipped though because a lot of the clams were empty or closed.

PAPAYA SALAD – I didn’t order this nor was I a big fan of it but everyone else seemed to like it. I ate a version of this during Boyfriend’s family party where they used green mango instead of papaya and it totally threw me off because I thought I was eating noodles! I was so disappointed that I decided to not like it from that point on.

We also ordered a bowl of noodles (not pictured) and the only thing I forgot to order was my DURIAN MILKSHAKE that I usually order when I go there. Oh well. I suggest you drink tea anyway to wash down all the greasy(ly-delicious) foods.

Bill came to about $100 which is not bad because it’s totally worth it!
YOU CAN’T PUT A PRICE ON GOOD FOOD.

On Friday night, Boyfriend, N, D and I went to the new Chop Restaurant in Richmond at the Sandman Hotel for their dry run before their grand opening which means a complimentary meal for us… how can we say no to that? The restaurant which was divided into a lounge and dining area, which was huge, beautiful and intimate although the waiters were standing around talking to each other when we first walked in which kind of annoyed me. I guess that’s why they totally needed that dry run… most of them seemed like total… no0bz (although, very friendly noobs I must say).

We had our menu selections chosen for us; entrées included a porterhouse steak, rosemary lemon chicken, prime ribs and halibut (in order of what I thought was best to worst). The porterhouse steak was SO GOOD (as Giada would say) and lucky D chose it but it better be good because it was one of the most expensive things on the menu. I never usually order chicken at a restaurant because it’s almost always dry but the chicken Boyfriend had tonight was one of the best I’ve had (and I’m hard to impress when it comes to chicken breast!). The prime rib was meh… good but nothing too interesting. The halibut was good but they overcooked it. The best? The mash potatoes— I’m a mash potato freak! Yum. We had dinner with a bottle of Merlot and a couple of cocktails.

I wish they made us fill a survey at the end to let them know how ANNOYINGLY GOOD the service was. Our server had an intimidating blond trainer following him to make sure he goes through EVERY single procedure and we all felt so bad for the guy! If I were him, I don’t know, I think I might wet my pants with her following me around like that. He was so nice and soft-spoken but SO nervous— his hands were shaking so much when he poured us wine! I ordered a bellini and N asked for a Ceasar right after and when he left, she said, “omigod what if he gives me a ceasar salad instead?!” If that were to happen, we would’ve just shut our mouths and give it to Boyfriend to eat since we wouldn’t want our server to get in trouble. Fortunately, we got the right drinks. I’m sure he would’ve done a lot better if there wasn’t so much pressure and if he wasn’t forced to be annoying (like another server told me, “if I was a customer there, I’d probably kill the server!”). My only wish was that we got some bitchy waitress so we could complain but our guy was too nice. But I think I’m complaining a little too much for a complimentary dinner!

Our grand total came up to around $50 (just for alcohol) with a $20 tip. The night almost ended when I accidently ate a spoonful of horseradish and almost fell on the floor dying but I would definitely come back again.

I also want to congratulate Chop for joining the other winners of Vancouver’s Worst-Steakhouse-Restaurant-Website Award: Gothams and Keg (are they trying to imitate meat with those colors?!). Stonegrill doesn’t even deserve the award because their website is practically non-existant. You would think for these prominent restaurants in Vancouver, they could afford better websites.

*CONTAINS A TINY BIT OF SPOILERS.
The Favored Childby Philippa Gregory
Sensual, gripping, sometimes mystical, The Favored Child sweeps the reader irresistibly into the eighteenth century, a revolutionary period in English history. This rich and dramatic novel continues the saga of the Lacey family started in Philippa Gregory’s bestselling and enduringly popular Wideacre.

I’m not even going to give a formal review for this book because it doesn’t deserve it. The good things about the book was the writing style which was amazing, the plot and the historical references which were fascinating, but the breaking point for me: the protagonist/narrator in the book was A WEAKASS BITCH who let people push her around AND THERE IS NOTHING MORE ANNOYING THAN A WEAKASS BITCH (and I can’t stand weakass bitches). It started out really good but it just got more unbearable as I turned each page; there was a couple points in the book where I stopped reading and just skimmed the pages. It’s like, dude I don’t care if you’re freaking lonely… you brought this onto yourself!! Seriously, does it take you like 200 pages to realize that you’re an idiot?! Idiot.

BUT SERIOUSLY … this IS a very good book despite that ONE point I mentioned above just because I have super low tolerance for that stuff (especially when it happens in real life!!). I said it sucked, but I still recommend it if you read Wideacre.

I gave the book 3/10. It was so painful to read— I don’t know why I keep on putting myself through this. As sad as it may sound, I’m going to buy the last book in the trilogy, Meridon, because I HAVE to finish it. Grr (at myself). I hope the protagonist is more like Beatrice Lacey and not like weakass Julia Lacey!

Check out the conclusion to this trilogy: Meridon.

by Philippa Gregory

Beatrice Lacey, as strong-minded as she is beautiful, refuses to conform to the social customs of her time. Destined to lose her family name and beloved Wideacre estate once she is wed, Beatrice will uses any means necessary to protect her ancestral heritage. “She is a Lacey of Wideacre,” her father warns,”and whatever she does, however she behaves, will always be fitting.” Yet even as Beatrice’s scheming seems about to yield her dream, she is haunted by the one person who knows the extent of her plans…and her capacity for evil.

Incest (and a LOT of it). Love. Rape. Betrayal. Murder. Deception. Fraud. Greed.

Two words I have to describe this Wideacre: WOW and OVERWHELMING. The wow isn’t really a good “wow” either and the book was way over the top— so much that I actually had to stop reading it for a while because I couldn’t take much too much of the it at a time, nevertheless, I was too intrigued to not finish it and at the end I had to admit, it was a beautifully written tragedy although disgustingly descriptive with themes that may be uncomfortable for most.

I’ve never hated a protagonist as much as I hated Beatrice Lacey but I found myself routing for her while getting irritated at the righteous characters who were always trying to set her right. Maybe that’s why this book creeped me out so much— because I sided with someone so dark and evil like Beatrice.

I’m a huge fan of Philippa Gregory, but there was way too much incest in this book for my taste. If you can somehow force yourself to put that all aside like I did, you’ll find a book that captures very well the essence of the era, successfully engages the reader with the characters and makes them feel every emotion the characters are going through, whether good or bad. It’s dark, overwhelming but a very intense and fascinating read.

I highly recommended it to: a) lovers of historical fiction, b) if you’re looking for an intense novel to engage yourself into c) you choose none of the above but you just love trashy, scandalous novels.

I give Wideacre a 6.5/10. It makes me feel dirty to even admit I liked this book (despite all the ickyness)! Hah. I even picked up book 2 of the trilogy today: The Favored Child.

The Queen’s Fool by Philippa Gregory

Wideacre by Philippa Gregory

I wasn’t planning on buying any books for a while but I’ve been dying to read The Riven Kingdom which is the second book in the Godspeaker trilogy. I got the other two so I could get free shipping since I was too lazy to actually go to Chapters to get them (and also an excuse to get more).

The first book, The Empress is about an unwanted, feral slave named Hekat who was destined to become the greatest empress of Mijak in a world ruled by religion. You sympathize with the her in the beginning because of who she is and where she’s from but as the story progresses, you realize Hekat is bit crazy (somewhat of a sociopath) and incapable of feeling love or sympathy— only hatred and fear so you find yourself disliking her more and more because of what she’s becoming. I find this interesting because she is suppose to be the protagonist and the protagonist is always perceived as the “good guy” (although I know not all protagonists are suppose to be likable). But anyhow, it compliments well with Hekat’s independence, desire to rise to the top and her extremely determined and ambitious personality… she is after all, ” precious and beautiful, she is god-touched.”

I love epic fantasies and this was one of those books that I couldn’t put down because it captivated me from beginning to end— and it was different. It’s definitely NOT for the weak of heart because it’s dark, bloody, violent, graphic and gets worse as the novel progresses. The style of writing is a bit repetitive and could get annoying but despite that I absolutely loved this book.

I haven’t been so hooked on a book since finishing all of Terry Goodkind’s last November. I just finished reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer and it’s the deepest and most beautiful book I’ve ever read. It’s a mixture of science-fiction, suspense and romance and I recommend it to anyone; I swear you will LOVE it. I’ve never been the biggest fan of romance novels, but the sci-fi aspect of it caught my eye when I read the book jacket. You can read an excerpt of the book at her website here. I couldn’t stop thinking of this book after I finished it and I think I’m going to read it again since I have to wait until next weekend to buy her Twilight series in Seattle. Ah the agony of waiting! I bought The Host at Chapters for $30 because I was impatient but it’s on Amazon for $18.26! Damnit. Oh well it was so worth it… I think I will buy the paperback edition when it comes out too.

This book is now at the top of my favorites list, sharing the spot with The Witching Hour (Anne Rice) and Lord of the Rings (J.R.R. Tolkien) and a bunch of others. I can’t say I have ONE all-time favorite book because that’s just impossible!

I lied because I did read a biography on Madame Chiang Kai-Shek a couple weeks before I started reading this and I was totally hooked on that book too. Except it’s a whole different genre so it doesn’t count. HEHE.

Anyway, I think I stayed up till 6am last night reading The Host on Saturday night and Boyfriend tries to wake me up at freaking 11am to go for dim sum. He’s crazy!!! But I managed to get my arse out of bed and pig out with him. Ironically, I blogged about Mother’s Day gift ideas but didn’t realize it was Mother’s Day until Boyfriend reminded me that morning. LOL. But mother didn’t come since she was already cooking but I was forced to go out for dinner with her and her Chinese lady friends. Talk about boring and awkward, plus the food wasn’t as exciting as usual. At least I didn’t have to dig in with my hands to eat the giant prawns which Boyfriend peeled for me (yeah I’m that lazy!). And I didn’t even bother touching the crabs… I was hoping we get lobster or Alaskan King Crab. Oh well.

Here’s my mini Curve review:

PROS

Good reception.

Battery life is freaking GOOD! I got my phone last Monday night and have been dinking around it every day (SMS, Wi-Fi, games, music, camera, etc.) and it didn’t die until the following Monday morning.

Love the Qwerty keyboard although I’m still getting use to it because I think my fingers are too fat. I actually got sick of text messaging on my Shine because the keypad sucked so bad.

26 speed dial keys!

CONS

Blackberry has got to have to UGLIEST user interface in the world. I’ll be completely hooked on it if future models will get a facelift. An interface designer has got to have a sexy interface.

You can’t seem to turn off the keypad tones while dialing number which is really annoying.

Wi-Fi signal is too weak to connect to home connections unless I do it in my room where my router (and computer) is. But why would I want to do that?

Not too fond of the calendar system/interface since it’s one of the features I use most. Might need some time getting use to.

Camera sucks but I can easily live with that because I never use my phone camera anyway.

There are as many cons as pros but that’s because I’m picky and a devoted Nokia fan (although I haven’t owned one in a year). I CAN live with all the cons though except the UI thing. Ugh. Once you get out of the main menu, the design just goes straight downhill from there… oh well. Let’s see what future models will bring.

I’ll still give the Curve and 6.5/10.

Television and movies can never be as good as a good book. Sure, you can’t physically view events in a book but if you have enough imagination, you can create it in your minds way better than any visual media can. I always see TV and movies as secondaries, that’s why all those books made into visual media are NEVER as good as they should be. First, you can’t capture all those fine details and you have to cut so many parts of the story just so you can fit it into a specific time frame. They just get so many ratings because the majority of the people who watched it has never read the original book.

But you have to admit, if you love a book, you would want it to be made into a movie so you can actually see it physically in front of your eyes. This was the case for me in Lord of the Rings. Although the movie left out a lot of the story which I thought should’ve been included, the setting and visuals effects were stunning. It’s still my all-time favorite movie… but the book is still a lot better.

So anyway, we were watching 24 and damn, that show is seriously media-crack. It’s so freaking addicting! BUT I start reading the Sword of Truth series (by Terry Goodkind) and guess what? I got bored of 24!! I don’t even know what happened during the last couple episodes of season 4 because I couldn’t put my book down while my boyfriend was watching. There was so much more action, character development and substance in that book that a mere TV show cannot have. Even more than 24! I can’t believe I said that but it’s true. Richard Raul makes Jack Bauer look like nothing. NOTHING.

My boyfriend loves to tell me that I’m wasting time reading and I love to tell him how much he is missing out just because he can’t sit still enough to read an entire novel (and of course, none of us really listen to each other). Too bad because I really feel bad for people who thinks books are a waste of time (and it really really pisses me off they won’t stop telling me that). Obviously you shouldn’t lock yourself up in your house for two weeks reading, but everyone should make time for it once in a while. Some people choose a book, starts reading and gives up because they made a horrible choice in a book that doesn’t live up to their taste so in turn, they never open another one up again. NOT ALL BOOKS SUCK! You just have to find one that will interest you. And here’s a tip which is one of the oldest clichés in the book, but one that EVERYONE still does: DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER!!!

I think people are often itmidated by books because of the size of it. But once you start reading, you will prefer and enjoy the longer and thicker novels because you simply don’t want the story to end. Anything less than 500 pages is considered short because it goes by way quicker than you think. You’ll find yourself quite disappointed if the book doesn’t have a sequel because you just want to know what happens afterwards!

(Artwork by Keith Parkinson)

On the contrary, there is one downside to books. They make you fat! I don’t want to know how many pounds I’ve gained during the hundreds of hours I’ve laid around reading. But I guess it’s all worth it.

So anyway it’s 5:30am and I just finished making a bunch of Flash movies for my sister’s project so I think I’m going to continue reading my book until I have to go to the Boyfriend’s in the afternoon. I’m on book 4 of the Sword of Truth series and I want to finish it today. I only bought up to book 5 when I went to the states last weekend so I guess it’s time for another big order on Amazon. Yay.

Can science and religion co-exist?

Yes because we’ve been co-existing for how many millenia? If there is one, there will always be the other because people will always be disputing.

We watched The Kingdom last weekend and I thought it was amazing and powerful because you know this is stuff that is happening today. The guys thought there weren’t enough action in the middle, which was partly true, but I thought it built the mood. The bombing scenes were really sad and horrific but they didn’t show any mangled body parts and such, to my disappointment. Just kidding… but not really (I’ve gotta stop saying that). The other two movies that I really really want to watch is Beowulf and Elizabeth: The Golden Age. I think if I never read Beowulf in Lit 12, I wouldn’t be interested in seeing that movie at all. The Elizabeth movie preview already kept me off my seat throughout the entire sequence so I can’t wait to see what the movie brings.

Oh, did I mention that Trieu and Nat both got new snowboards this weekend? His is white and hers is purple and they’re hot! Aw I want a new one now too!!

They were not drunk. Drunk people don’t go “omggg I’m soo drunk!” They go, “omggg I’m soo fucked!” Who the hell censors themselves when they are drunk?

Hahahahahaha I love it and I agree. I think we all hate fake drunks, don’t we? Or those who act drunker than they really are!

Are theses black boxes annoying? Because they are to me. I’ll change them later.

Sorry, all the pics and everything else are in the private entry below.

Just finished reading The Bonesetter’s Daughter by Amy Tan.

Very very touching book about Ruth, an Asian woman in San Francisco whose mother, Luling has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Their relationship is rocky due to Luling’s behaviour but at the same time she recognizes her mother’s possible fate so she hires a translator to translate her mother’s life story written in Chinese she wrote a couple years earlier. Throughout this book, you will take a journey through past and present; Ruth and Luling’s relationship and Luling’s tragic past… which I am sure will make you cry!!!

I don’t know why I didn’t read this book earlier! I borrowed it twice already from libraries but I just left it there unread.
