Books > TV & Movies

Television and movies can never be as good as a good book. Sure, you can’t physically view events in a book but if you have enough imagination, you can create it in your minds way better than any visual media can. I always see TV and movies as secondaries, that’s why all those books made into visual media are NEVER as good as they should be. First, you can’t capture all those fine details and you have to cut so many parts of the story just so you can fit it into a specific time frame. They just get so many ratings because the majority of the people who watched it has never read the original book.

Sword of Truth

But you have to admit, if you love a book, you would want it to be made into a movie so you can actually see it physically in front of your eyes. This was the case for me in Lord of the Rings. Although the movie left out a lot of the story which I thought should’ve been included, the setting and visuals effects were stunning. It’s still my all-time favorite movie… but the book is still a lot better.

Sword of Truth

So anyway, we were watching 24 and damn, that show is seriously media-crack. It’s so freaking addicting! BUT I start reading the Sword of Truth series (by Terry Goodkind) and guess what? I got bored of 24!! I don’t even know what happened during the last couple episodes of season 4 because I couldn’t put my book down while my boyfriend was watching. There was so much more action, character development and substance in that book that a mere TV show cannot have. Even more than 24! I can’t believe I said that but it’s true. Richard Raul makes Jack Bauer look like nothing. NOTHING.

Sword of Truth

My boyfriend loves to tell me that I’m wasting time reading and I love to tell him how much he is missing out just because he can’t sit still enough to read an entire novel (and of course, none of us really listen to each other). Too bad because I really feel bad for people who thinks books are a waste of time (and it really really pisses me off they won’t stop telling me that). Obviously you shouldn’t lock yourself up in your house for two weeks reading, but everyone should make time for it once in a while. Some people choose a book, starts reading and gives up because they made a horrible choice in a book that doesn’t live up to their taste so in turn, they never open another one up again. NOT ALL BOOKS SUCK! You just have to find one that will interest you. And here’s a tip which is one of the oldest cliche in the book, but one that EVERYONE still does: DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER!!!

Sword of Truth

I think people are often itmidated by books because of the size of it. But once you start reading, you will prefer and enjoy the longer and thicker novels because you simply don’t want the story to end. Anything less than 500 pages is considered short because it goes by way quicker than you think. You’ll find yourself quite disappointed if the book doesn’t have a sequel because you just want to know what happens afterwards!

On the contrary, there is one downside to books. They make you fat! I don’t want to know how many pounds I’ve gained during the hundreds of hours I’ve laid around reading. But I guess it’s all worth it.

So anyway it’s 5:30am and I just finished making a bunch of Flash movies for my sister’s project so I think I’m going to continue reading my book until I have to go to the Boyfriend’s in the afternoon. I’m on book 4 of the Sword of Truth series and I want to finish it today. I only bought up to book 5 when I went to the states last weekend so I guess it’s time for another big order on Amazon. Yay. :drunk:

A love for our history.

I want to fly half way across the world and set my foot upon the ruins of Pompeii. I want to see the spectacular sights the citizens of Ancient Rome saw and taste the culture of their children today. I want to step into the temples where their ancient gods and goddesses were worshiped and visit the domains of their mythological characters. I want to walk through the doors of St. Peter’s Basilica and wander through the centuries of history and marvel at the architectural wonder. I want to follow Alexander the Great to all the places that he saw and conquered. This will lead me to Egypt where I want to feel the warm desert sands of the land between my toes as I gaze up at the Great Pyramid of Giza and stroll through the Valley of the Kings on the back of a camel. I want to swim in the Nile as the sun dips low in the sky; watching the beautiful Egyptian sunset as Cleopatra saw it in her ancient days long gone.

Egypt

There is no better way to live than to be able to spend a lifetime seeing and experience the history of our world. I would honestly swap luxury and strip down to the bare necessities and live on the road if I was offered a chance to everything in the world for free.

Someone take me there…
