2009 Style Resolutions

To change it up a bit, I’m going to do style resolutions this year because my usual resolutions are the same every year. Some are new and some are old but here they are:

Dark Hair

Dark and sultry is the new sexy. Blond is done ladies (well on non-natural blonds)! Have you noticed all the hot girls are dying their hair dark now? Stop bleaching and frying your hair this year; people will take you more seriously and you get to look all exotic like Nicole Scherzinger and Kim Kardashian. Blond is more interesting but I always though brunettes are hotter (no offense(!!) but compare Kim to Paris) so I can’t wait to dye my hair dark and join them (not like it’ll help much for me though). I might still sport some blond lowlights if I don’t have the guts to go purple because I’m not a girl to have one hair color… but definitely no highlights or all-over blond. Also I want to try straight bangs and maybe a wavy perm this year.

Purple

Purple. Thank god purple is still considered “trendy” because I LOVE PURPLE although I’d still wear it for years to come despite what the fashion nazis say. I remember a couple years ago, my sister bought a purple sweater from Zara and I was like, why the hell would you wear purple? What the heck was wrong with me? I was pondering for a long time whether to blog about that because that’s such a hypocritical story and I’m so ashamed of myself.

Gold

Gold. Everybody is doing gold now from Vivienne Westwood to Dior to Louis Vuitton. I use to be a huge silver fan but I’ve been wearing a lot of gold colored clothing and accessories lately… mainly because I discovered that purple looks awesome with it so now I’m officially addicted. I’d want a white-gold wedding band though (*hinthint*Boyfriend).

Necklaces

Necklaces. I LOVE accessorizing with necklaces whether they be huge and chunky or just layering thin chains, they can effortlessly complete any boring looking outfit. I will also expand my scarf and belt collection (and accessories of all sorts) because you can wear the exact same outfit but change up the accessories and it’ll look totally different. You can never have enough!

Prints

Prints. I’m not too bold when it comes to prints and colors but 2009 is the year for it so I might as well take a step forward and sport more of it in my wardrobe as well.

Other resolutions:

  • Spend less on clothing and become a bargain shopper. I feel icky wearing people’s throw aways but I need to put that aside and check out those thrift stores because everyone seems to be finding fab stuff in them.
  • Buy a sewing machine. Learn to use it. Hem my own jeans. I have 11 pairs of designer jeans that I haven’t worn yet because I’ve been too lazy to get them hemmed and it really adds up.
  • Stop buying designer jeans. Thankfully, I don’t care much about designer items except for jeans but I don’t need anymore and designers are slashing the prices because of the economy so they’re not even special anymore. I can sell a couple pairs to get that sewing machine and do more DIY projects with it as well.
  • Change my purse more often. I have a habit of carrying the same bag for 5+ months because I don’t want to move my stuff from one bag to another. I really need to buy some bag organizers to make it easier on myself.
  • Be more high maintenance. GASP.I may seem like it but I AM NOT HIGH MAINTENANCE. I might take a long time getting ready for a night out but on a daily basis, I’m lazy as heck. I never gave a crap about my skin (and somehow I still have clear skin). I don’t style my hair unless I’m going for a night out in town. I don’t make an effort on weekdays when I have work (I don’t know why people do, there’s no one to look good for anyway… it reminds me of girls who work at McDs with caked on make up and fake lashes). I always forget to pluck my eyebrows. I don’t remove chipping nail polish; I just continue to chip it all off. I don’t even always properly remove my make up before I go to bed. I shall change all this in 2009.
    • Wear more make up. I know people say you should go natural but I went through a make up phase where I bought sooo much so I need to use them all before they expire. Currently, I only make an effort with make up on the weekends and barely on weekdays.
    • Make an effort to look good everyday. This will definitely be hard… if you see me everyday, you’ll see how inconsistent my outfits are. Some days I’ll be totally glam-ed up while on other days I’ll be wearing a totally mismatching and boring outfit with no accessories… and maybe even flip flops because I left my boots at home. The problem is that I stay over at Boyfriend’s a lot and I tend to leave stuff home so I need to consider moving some of my wardrobe to his house.
  • Start growing out my hair. First step is to make it healthy which is already in progress because my hair wasn’t growing before from bleach overload. I want long hair so I can have supermodel waves… I’m bored of the stick-straight hair. I think I’m just going to cheat and get a weave.
  • Shop with a plan. The only time I ever go shopping (not online) is during my lunch break so I don’t have much time because I’m too busy (OR LAZY) to otherwise. It’d be a lot more efficient if I come up with a list of specifics before heading out.

Michelle Obama: What Should She Wear?

Michelle Obama

Who says these are bleak times? On one matter at least, designers are positively euphoric. That is the Obama presidency, a two-part point of light. While much of the glee centers around the President-elect and his policies, Michelle Obama radiates a powerful style all her own. So step aside, Angelina. You too, Madonna, not to mention the bevy of pop tarts, gossip girls, “High School Musical” grads and even potential Oscar divas, now all suddenly second-tier. The American fashion industry hasn’t had a catch this big since, well, since another icon of Democratic chic took up residency on Pennsylvania Avenue in 1961.

For the big guns at least, dressing Michelle may prove even more of a challenge, since her chic is more lowercase democratic than was Jackie’s. Throughout the campaign, the first lady-to-be has avoided all major names save Narciso Rodriguez, while showing a proclivity for locals (Chicago’s Maria Pinto), young types (Thakoon; Jason Wu) and cost-conscious labels (Donna Ricco; J. Crew).

Nevertheless, just about everyone yearns to dress Michelle, who could raise the profile of American fashion around the world. Yet with the exception of Maria Cornejo, her current favorites, as well as a few majors, declined WWD’s request for sketches. Some are loath to presume to offer unsolicited advice, while others, it seems, are definitely in the Inaugural sweepstakes and prefer, or have been asked, to keep their participation low-pro.

But plenty more happily offered their visions for Michelle and her charming first daughters, for the big day and evening events of Jan. 20.

Lip Balm & Looks

I finally got my lip balms from Martinsville Emporium!! They are super moist (I like to call it “lip gloss wannabe lip balm“), glides on your lips like butta and doesn’t leave that icky white film on your lips, plus there are so many flavors to choose from. I only ordered 6 but I’m probably going to order more because I’m in LOVE with these.. I just wish they tasted as good as they smell. ♥ …Imagine a lip balm MADE OF REAL FOOD… now that’ll be crazy (and moldy when I find it under the seat of my car 6 months later).

Lipbalm

Lime Sugar Supreme – My favorite! Keylime pie is my favorite dessert so this lime flavored lip balm is definitely my new HG of lip balms.
Toasted Marshmallow – Smells delicious but I think this is a flavor that I’ll get sick of if I use too much… kind of like how I can only eat like 3 marshmallows before I puke all over you.
Margarita – I love this one too because it has a hint of citrus scent but where’s the tequila? It would be hilarious if you can get drunk off a lip balm (and I can totally image some people doing it).
Lemon Meringue Pie – My second favorite since lemon meringue pie is my second favorite dessert.
Buttery Toffee – Very strong buttery smell.. smelling it is such a sin and makes me feel fat because it’s so damn buttery. Thank god it won’t add extra pounds on you though.
Raspberry Plum – Smells like heaven but after having it on for a while, it started reminding me of the Strawberry flavored lip Smackers which makes me think I’m 7-years-old again.

Recent looks with recycled accessories because since I stayed at Boyfriends all week (he got the satellite to work again!) and like always, leave most of my stuff at home:

Looks

Today I officially canceled my 6-week vacation to Asia next year and I can’t change my mind because I already told my manager and he updated the schedule for next year. With all the stuff going on, I decided to stay home and go on vacation next year instead. Boyfriend is still going to Vietnam though and I feel bad because we were suppose to travel around Asia together but he understands. The sucky thing is that WE HAVE TO GO TO EUROPE NEXT YEAR!! :@ No offense, but I have no interest in going to Europe at all… I just want to go to Asia [and Africa]. If I can’t have grilled squid, deep fried octopus, bubble tea and laugh at people carrying fake designer handbags (oh wait, I can do that here) while walking around the streets late at night, then I don’t want to go there. Boo. I guess they can wait though, I guess Europe will be fun too. If we do go to Europe, I want to visit some haunted castles.
