Gym time is not negotiable.
The hardest part about exercising: getting to the gym.Â
How many of you have said to yourself, “okay, I’m going to workout tonight after work” but when that time comes, you decide you’re too tired to do anything and end up going home to veg in front of the TV?
I use to face that problem a lot but nowadays, I’m pretty good at pushing myself to the gym, no matter how tired or busy I am— I always plan my day so that my workout is a priority, so busy is not an excuse.
The hardest part about getting fit is getting to the gym or simply starting your exercise routine. For me, once I overcome that roadblock, the sky is the limit to how hard I can push myself. Here are some tips to overcome it:
- Get a workout buddy, schedule a time to workout together and make it a MUST. Give each other crap if you miss the workout. It use be more frequent, but now I have a gym date with my best friend every Monday where we  always plan the hardest workout of the week. There are times when things just come up and we can’t workout but we’ll make up for it next time, by planning an even harder workout.
- Workout with someone as dedicated as you are. My workout buddy commutes for over an hour after a long day at work so we can work out together. She can workout closer to where she lives and works but she comes all the way to my gym. Now that’s dedication!
- Book time with a personal trainer or sign up for a class. Once it’s scheduled, you know you should go. You don’t even need to think about it— there’s a trainer/instructor there to tell you what to do and you just have to show up. If you can’t even do that, just admit you are plain lazy. You should ask your PT to be on your ass about making the training session because it’s also part of their job to help you stay motivated.
- Don’t think. Just do. When I find myself contemplating or stalling [before a really scary workout], I’ll immediately say to myself, “fuck it” and press start on my timer. It’s hard but I’m getting really good at this… you just need to keep at it.
How do you get yourself to the gym?

Great advice hun! I always go to your blog whenever I’m feeling a little lazy to go to the gym and I always find motivation to just do it
Although I don’t really know whether I’ve lost any weight or dress sizes, I can definitely feel myself getting fitter, running for longer and also getting smaller
Yay!

Glad to help.
I love the feeling of just being more toned and tighter in areas like the arms and stomach. Being able to last through an intense workout without completely dying is an amazing feeling too!

I found the best way to go is to pack a gym bag the night before and go right after work. When I get home, I automatically start to go into relaxation mode so I avoid going home until after my workout.

Great idea… and leave that gym bag in your car or at your door so you can just grab it and go.

I always have to remember this…you’ll never regret a workout, only a missed workout. — Unless I’m tired. If my body is tired, I’ll give it a break.

Great quote and so true! I always regret it and can’t stop feeling guilty if I miss a workout.

“The hardest part about exercising: getting to the gym.”
This is so true!
Getting there is more than half the battle because once you actually overcome that & get there, might as well put the rest of the effort in right?
Even for someone like me, who <3's working out & running, my biggest obstacle is always just getting to the gym. My end goals keep me going though.
