Cycling Adventures

Last weekend we biked from my house to the other side of the city where we had a nice seafood dinner on the docks and lots of frozen yoghurt before biking home. We were all stuffed and bloated but it only took us about 30-40 minutes each way. Not long enough!

Biking

Our next cycling adventure is on the long weekend: biking from Vancouver to Grouse Mountain, do the Grouse Grind before biking back home. The boys will be hiking down the Grind as well but my bad knees and I will be taking the gondola. We have a wedding the night before so hopefully we aren’t too hungover but I am sooo looking forward to this! Hills galore… and I can’t wait to eat afterwards!! The best meals are always after a great workout.

In August, we’re planning a ride from Burnaby to Deep Cove, then go kayaking with the family and perhaps play some “tennis” with the kids (it always ends up turning into tag or letting the 3-year-olds run around with the racquets) and then ending the day with loads of lemon grass chicken wings.

holy hell Katy!! you look so freakin’ skinny! (those arms!) and in shape. :) Is it just me or is cycling quite popular right now? My friend is VERY much into it as well and he’s always been a fitness buff. You must have fantastic views when riding around.

Auuugghhh this post makes me SO homesick for the Pacific North West! The Grouse looks like it would make for an amazing & challenging trail run!

BTW, how did you pick out your bike? I think my husband & I are going to pick up a pair in the fall although I’m not sure if we’re going to get trail bikes or road bikes.

Come back and visit! I bet the weather (even with the rain) is better than the desert heat (well, I’d think so anyway). ;) But I guess DC will be just as good!

We went to a specialty bike shop and had it fitted for us. The bike I’m riding is a hybrid (cross between mountain and road bike) because we like to ride on trails too. Road bikes are lighter but if you’re not planning to bike long distances and up lots of hills, then a hybrid should be fine. I mean, I used this bike in the Ride to Conquer Cancer (220km) and I wasn’t tired at all— and I’m sure you’re as fit as me, if not fitter. Think of it as a better workout!! =)

Awesome! I didn’t even know they made hybrid bikes but that is definitely something I’ll ask about when it’s time for us to shop. Thanks!

Your rides sound awesome. I would love to bike to the bay for a nice seafood dinner. My friends have been trying to convince me to buy a new fancy road bike to go fast with them instead of using my slow little mountain bike.

Just invest it a hybrid… road bikes are overrated.

You look fanastic!! I love going on bike rides…I just wish it wasn’t that hot here so we could go on bike rides instead of having to wait until the weather gets cooler.

  11. I want to get into cycling.
My best friend is pretty hardcore, but makes it seem like so much fun.
AND the results he gets from all his exercise makes him look so good!! Hahah, I just need to get better at my bike riding skills. Then I’m seriously thinking of investing in a real bike. lol
