Knowledge is Motivation

Health Comic

If you head blindly into a lifestyle change or diet without any knowledge in that area, you are setting yourself on a path to failure.

You aren’t going to see the right results [in the time frame that you want] therefore you will be unmotivated and you will give up.

Do you know these terms? Glycemic Index. HIIT. Basal Metabolic Rate. Glycogen. Lactic acid. Plyometrics. Isometrics. Posture. Core. If not, start doing some research! Okay, well you don’t have to get that obsessive, but it never hurts to know more and it’ll make your path to a healthier lifestyle a lot easier.

You can hire a personal trainer or take classes but one of my biggest motivators that got me to change my lifestyle (that was also FREE) were all the health and fitness blogs I subscribed to. All that information was addictive and it opened my eyes to a whole new world that I barely knew anything about. I wanted more. I wanted to be part of it. I wanted to know if I applied all those tips and methods to my life, would it work for me?

Having knowledge suddenly made me realize how “easy” it was to achieve my goals and it provided me with the motivation that I needed because a clear path suddenly opened up. It seemed like there was no room for failure.

Unfortunately, there was. The only thing that could stop me was myself but luckily for me, one of my biggest fears is failure and I knew if I let that happen, I’m never going to let it go especially with all this knowledge that I now had.

It got me excited.

I was unstoppable.

And I still am. ;)

Are you?

This is so true, and I agree! Years ago I just wanted to lose wait and had no idea about fitness or anything, then I started lifting weights and saw no results, and I realized I was doing things all wrong. And it is true once you find out what there is to being healthy and fit it is exciting!

Definitely not unstoppable just yet, but getting there. Quit smoking and starting to change eating habits etc, in preparation to get back to the gym. I know that if I force myself I’ll hate it and that’s the last thing I want so I’ve gotta take it a bit slower.

Taking it slow is good… I think a lot of people need to develop patience if they really want to achieve their health goals.

Yuppers. There was a point in my life were I was like “You know what, Im going to fit into these stupid jeans, even if it kills me!” And low and behold, 20+ lbs later I was in these outrageous pair of formfitting, devastating size 6 jeans all the way from a size 12. Due to a medical condition I have, I’ve gained some of that weight back and now I slip between size 8-10 but I refuse to stay there for long! My new goal is to reach my ultimate goal of being a comfy and reasonable size 4! =)

Seriously, it totally helps to know what you’re doing. A friend of my sister decided to become a vegetarian but she didn’t do enough research or any consultation with her doctor. So she ended up lacking so much of the needed nutrients that she had be hospitalize.

That’s scary to hear.. I hope she’s okay now. Yep, everyone definitely needs to do research before starting any new kind of routine/diet.

Health and fitness blogs are definitely very useful! If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t have found a cure for my thyroid problems. So yes, people, read! :)

I’ve been working out for about 12 years now, and I have to say that it’s never really an easy thing to keep going to the gym, or just trying to keep in shape. The one advice I can give though is if you look at keepin in shape as a natural part of your day, as natural as eating or taking a shower, then it becomes a little easier. No matter what though, it’s important to find new ways to motivate yourself. Great posting.

reading YOUR blog is one of my motivations to make changes actually. Even this post itself opened my eyes… maybe THAT’S why I haven’t been able to stick to anything b/c all I want is to lose weight/tone up but i don’t know anything about HOW to do it! I guess it would really help if i came up with a plan… i’m very much a plan kind of girl… lists, schedules, etc.

Thanks Kym! Out of all people, I know you can do it if you’re really determined. Look at where you are now. ;)
