HI THERE, IS THERE SOMETHING SPECIFIC YOU'D LIKE TO READ?

Favorite Movies

My favorite movies are:

  • Lord of the Rings (all 3 of them)
  • What Dreams May Come
  • Breakfast at Tiffany’s
  • Amelie

Nothing new have been added to the list in ages until now … dundundun … AVATAR!! I’m sure everyone is sick of hearing more news about the movie but I had to add in my two cents. There was nothing spectacular about the plot and it had the most annoying and dumb protagonist ever (I almost wanted to stop watching) but the visuals, action scenes and the epic-ness of it all were amazing. By visuals, I don’t mean the quality of the CGI but the Pandora in itself. It’s nothing new (if you read a lot of fantasy like me) but you rarely get to see it in a film presented in the way that it was. I’m looking forward to the sequels and more importantly, the book. *crosses fingers*

I liked Avatar. We actually liked it so much we saw it twice. We went just to see something in 3D, and that’s the only reason we saw it the second time as well, but I didn’t hate the plot. No, it wasn’t anything new, but neither are romantic comedies, and no one ever fucking complains about that. I like the kind of scenes that feel like a ride, from the character’s point of view, that remind me of Disneyland. :) I also liked watching them get down. I hope they start making porn in 3D. ;)

I didn’t think he was so annoying! He’s the protagonist, yeah? Or did you see it more from the girl’s POV? As far as the plot, the little religious bits bugged me. I LOL-ed when Sigourney’s character said it wasn’t like Paganism, but the rocking and summoning their God was a bit much. I think they should have kept the spiritual stuff about the BIOLOGY of the forest instead of having it their deity. I like the theme that we destroyed our planet, but that doesn’t mean we have to go back in time and wear loin cloths and live in trees. I’d like to see a movie where we habituate a new planet but don’t destroy it OR regress socially, but actually move responsibly forward.

My favorite moved OMG OF ALL TIME are: Closer, Donnie Darko, Titanic! & a few others.

Don’t worry J, I will always love your super longass comments. :P

People only complain because the movie getting such good reviews so it’s natural that some feel like they need to go against the tide and hate on it. I love the scenes where everyone unites to fight the bad guys. Those are my favorite scenes in fantasy movies and they always give me the shivers.

I thought Jake was sooo dumb and annoying!! I seriously wanted to punch him!! Lol.

A movie where we actually habituate a planet without destroying it wouldn’t do well because people crave for action and adventure nowadays, especially in this genre and in the end, it would be the same; us meeting the natives, fighting them, trying to be accepted, etc. What else would they show? Us building houses, planting new crops, discovering new species, adjusting to the environment? Those are things that I would love to watch too but not the majority (we’re such geeks :D ). It would definite do well in a book though because it’d have time to develop and most readers are patient anyway. In Cameron’s original script for the movie, it went way deeper but if everything made it in the movie, people would just call it boring.

I have to admit, I’m a Titanic fan too. Leonardo DiCaprio was my first celeb crush back in the day.

I haven’t watched Avatar but yep, heard the plot was shit but the visuals were amazing. Lol @ Janine’s comment, the thought of 3D porno might just convince me to watch it haha! The LOTR Triology has to be some of my fav movies of all time, I also really liked the movie Shinobi Heart Under Blade. Mostly I find martial arts movies to be lacking in plot but usually beautifully — albeit unrealistically — done :P

Thanks, I’m going to check out Shinobi Heart Under Blade. I grew up watching Chinese martial arts movies but never seen a Japanese one before.

The 3 Lord of the Rings are among my favourites of all time too ! Everything in these movies was perfect (in my view at least, I’m not a cinema critique) : actors, music, set, battles.. On my list too : The shawshank Redemption and Billy elliott.

Oh god Amelie is just perfection in cinematic form. I absolutely love that movie.

As for Avatar, I thought the graphics were really stunning. The plot could have been better though, but otherwise the movie was pretty awesome.

I loved Avatar as well (not for the plot or the dialogue either) but definitely for just the visuals and eye candy. Seeing Pandora was really great…I’m excited for the WoW movie especially because i’m expecting the visuals to be amazing.

Yea, we should have gone to Whistler and my boyfriend actually *has* gone up there! He is always raving about it and saying how we need to go there. If we go, you better meet me up there! hehe

No it was true to size. BUT when I bought these thigh high flat boots from Aldo, I had to buy a size up. How much bigger is it? Maybe you can try stretch it with ice if it’s only 1/2 size or so.

It’s so hard for me to pick my favourite movies, but I definitely love Mean Girls, Fight Club, Finding Nemo, and Memento.

The only ones on your favourite list that I’ve seen are Lord of the Rings… I won’t even tell you how I felt about THAT series XD

I don’t think Avatar could ever be one of my top movies because of the plot. I can’t love a movie if the story isn’t great; no amount of cool visuals can make up for that. Plus, I don’t think Avatar’s “wow” factor will be unique once more and more movies use the same technology.

    REPLY

At least it can take props in pioneering that technology. I can’t wait until more movies come out with it though.

  17. Leanne says:

I’m not sure I’ve seen enough movies to label them as the best movies of all time. But the Departed sticks in my head. I haven’t seen Avatar but I’ve neard fixed reviews. One of my close guy friends thought it was a joke. He admits the cinematography was great but the amount of money poured into the movie he thought they would at least have better writers with a better storyline. Before he even told me the plot I had perfectly guessed the storyline, haha. Labelling the wanted substance “unobtainium” is pretty hilarious. hehe

    REPLY

The original storyline was great.. well at least I think it was. But stuff like that always gets dumbed down in a movie. That’s why I’d rather read; you can get soo much more out of it.

  18. Bunnie says:

Oh I’d have to agree. I was expecting waaay too much from that movie. Not my fault. You’re right. The plot was just okay. Nothing special. But the graphics and the setting was just beautiful. :)
BTW, how was your new years?? I look like a little round ball in the picture with you! You and your tall thin frame! Damn you!

I haven’t watched Avatar yet though everyone’s telling me it’s a must-watch and the “movie of the year”. I plan to watch it this weekend though. :)

I’m not a very movie person and I seldom watch movies in the theatres these days. It’s not that I don’t like watching movies but I find it expensive and I would rather spend the money on food. ;) My favourite movies of all times? I have to admit there isn’t one. They are generally either not bad or okay or poor for me. I like the Harry Potter series though. :D

    REPLY

I hate going to theatres too… it’s such a waste of time getting ready, driving there and then waiting for the movie to start. My BF and I just hook our laptop up to the TV and watch movies at home now. Plus we get to stay in our pjs.

there was a time when i was a total LOTR geek, i absolutely love the movies and i even remember saying to my bro that it would be impossible for any movie to size up to it ever again (in my opinion)…until Avatar, hahaha. i think though, the only difference is that LOTR’s plot/story is far more amazing than Avatar’s.

Aside from LOTR, I love chinese kung-fu type of films because of the culture & history, Korean melodramas and war films…if i list them all, my comment would be really long considering the movie geek that I am, hihi ^^

    REPLY

Have you read the LOTR books? It’s so much better than the movies!

I love Chinese movies in general.. well I haven’t watched any recently so I don’t know how they are now but I loved the old ones that I grew up watching (think: Stephen Chow, Andy Lau, the Wong Fei Hung movies, etc). I remember my favorite one use to be that one of Stephen Chow in ancient China with the giant.

Avatar was okay for me. I feel like I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn’t seen it in 3D, because that made my head hurt, but I always focus on the plot and the characters, not the graphics (unless the movie was horribly done or something; that would just be distracting).

I also love Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Amelie, though! It’s hard for me to pick a few favorites, but among them are: Inglourious Basterds, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Gone With the Wind, etc.
