Just thought I’d do a quick review of the Blackberry Javelin 8900 since I just switched the the 9700. I’ve been using this phone for about 7 months, upgrading from the 8320 which was a huge difference.

Yes, there was a boyband on my home screen.
Pros:
- Nice and upgraded interface.
- Small, compact and light; it’s the perfect size.
- Has Wifi and GPS.
- Vivid display and sharp sound.
Cons:
- Not as fast since it’s on a 2G network.
- Keyboard isn’t as good as the one on the 8320 (which is still the best Blackberry keyboard to date).
- Camera still isn’t anything to rave about but it’s a HUGE improvement from the 8320. I don’t use it for anything other than Twitpics anyway so it doesn’t matter much to me.
Rating: 8/10
I think the 8900 was a great phone although it would’ve been a lot better if it had 3G.
Anyway, I finally switched the the 9700 after it’s been sitting in it’s box in Boyfriend’s closet for the past two weeks and I love it! I’ll do a review after I’ve used it for a couple weeks. I also switched over to Rogers after being on Fido for over 10 years just to save about $15/month on my plan. My new plan is exactly $53/month after taxes with: 500GB of data, 100 daytime minutes, unlimited local and network calling and evenings/weekends, caller display/voicemail/etc. It’s almost the exact same plan I had on Fido excluding unlimited text messaging which I was paying $65-$72/month for but after all my friends got Blackberries, no one text messages anymore.
Edit– nevermind I just realized I do get unlimited texting.
Now the question is how I’m going to pimp out my new Bold?! I was about to order another full-white casing for it because I refuse to have the black one just like everyone else but I had second thoughts because I had a white Blackberry for the past 8 months. Should I go for another color? Hrm.
Which Blackberry model are you using and how much are you paying monthly?

I’ve been wanting to get a new berry (I’m still using 8320 right now!) and switch to Rogers from Fido for a while now but I dont want to pay Rogers $70/month! How did you get such an awesome plan?! It sounds like it has everything I’d need! And I went to ask Rogers at the store and the “best” plan they could give me had all that but for $70-75! >=(

WTF! How do you pay $53/month?? I think our plan sounds exactly the same… plus I got some freebies!!! I’m using the javelin and it’s my first Berry. It’s kind of slow sometimes, not sure if it’s because i have too much crap on it or I just dropped it too much. However, I really like the camera on it. It’s sooo clear. I use it to take most of my blog pix. My point n shoot SUCKS ASS. (must suck if I need to use my PHONE!!!) As for getting a white bold… isn’t there already a bold that’s manufactured in white? I’ve always wanted a white phone.
Happy Friday sweetness!

How much do you pay for your plan?
I don’t think the Javelin camera is that great.. well for me.
My pictures always turn out kinda blurry and the flash sucks but maybe because I take the pictures under bad lighting anyway?
The Bold 9000 comes in a white but I have the Bold 9700. Trieu has the 9000 but I don’t like it because it’s wider and chunkier looking than the Javelin/9700. You should upgrade to the new Bold that I have if you get the chance… it’s a lot faster than the Javelin! And are you doing battery pulls every couple weeks to reset your phone? It might make it faster.

I have the Curve 8320 like you use to have. I wanted the 8900 new curve until I saw the new bold. Now I want the new bold. I love my curve, but if I can get the curve features on a better phone, than thats the phone for me. After my curve I don’t think I can have another phone, that’s not a blackberry. I think I am a blackberry girl for life.

Yes get the new Bold 9700! It has all the features of the 8320 plus even more … and an nicer interface. I remember when I first got the 8320 (my first Blackberry), I was sooo pissed off because the interface was so ugly. Lol.

My sister has a blackberry… don’t know which model but she loves it despite its crud battery life. I want a blackberry, but I guess I’ll just have to make do with my Nokia E63, which isn’t too bad itself
I know what you mean by case covers. For awhile I used a purple cover for my ipod touch. Then one night I deco’d my pink cover and used that. Now I’m thinking of using my orange one
aww crud

I’m envious of your cell phone plan. I’m locked into my plan until next year and it’s really annoying since I have over 4000 minutes from the rollover and 0 data. Nobody calls anymore. Unlimited texting, network, nights, and weekend are the only good thing from my plan.

I’m trying to find someone to trade me my iphone for a Bold 9700. I have a plan here with T-Mobile that has unlimited data, text and 500 minutes for $60 a month. Super cheap and worth it!

You guys have it sooo much better than us Canadians when it comes to data plans.

Wow nice plan! Did you have to sign a contract? How much was the BB itself?

bb 9000
right now.. it’s 50 + tax/caller ID/etc = almost 70 / month. I’m going to get rid of data soon cause it’s so expensive! I only use it for twitter anyways.

I just got my Bold 9000 2days ago. I love everything about it, but the wifi is not that sensitive. The connection is keep failing me to log in to any software.

I’m currently using Bold 9000 and aside from a few glitches Ive been experiencing with the OS, I love it! Can’t live without it. Currently thinking of upgrading to the Bold 9700 because I think I rather use the trackpad.
Currently with Rogers
150 daytime, 1000 evening/weekend, 100 cdn long distance
unlimited incoming calls & rogers to rogers
caller id, voicemail, who called, unlimited texting/picture texting
unlimited email/bbm/instant msg data plan
Everything is $52.58 after saf and tax. Same price as yours but I think I rather have your plan because you have unlimited networking and evenings/wkend ..

I like the Bold2 better than the original Bold because it’s less bulky. My BF has the 9000 though and he hasn’t really complained about the OS though.
Does your plan have unlimited messaging data (emails, BBM) or does that include web-surfing data usage as well? If it does that’s awesome… I didn’t know they still had unlimited data plans in Canada unless you’re on Bell or Telus.
1000 evenings/weekends is already pretty good unless you talk a lot.
All of my friends are on Fido or Rogers anyway so I never really have problems with minutes…

Ooops, wrong choice of words I guess. You’re right, it’s just unlimited messaging data, no web-surfing. I used to have the $30 for 6gb plan (for web-surfing) but I removed it after I realized I didn’t really have a need for it. I actually like my voice plan, aside from the fact I go over on my day-time minutes once in a while because I have friends on the Fido network, so I would love to trade in my Rogers-to-Rogers for Local Networking but Rogers won’t budge
My OS died on me a few times when the screen suddenly turned all white and said “App Error 523″ When I called in to get it fixed they said it was common? O.o It was such a hassle because I always had to reset the phone

I could’ve sworn your title was about the 9700 earlier!! Lol I was comparing my phone to your picture cuz mine looks the same & I was confused hahaha.
I’m using the 8900 now & it’s my first blackberry! I prefer an actual keyboard rather than a touch one and I like how it’s so light! Too bad no one really uses it here in Hong Kong! I signed an 18 month contract but paying around $40cad for unlimited calls & data. Gotta pay for text msging though which sucks, since most of my friends use iphone!

Yeah I fixed it.
I’d choose a QWERTY keyboard over a touchscreen keyboard any day! Your plan is so cheap… data plans in Canada are so expensive.

I have the 8310. Although the built in GPS isn’t really existent, I have the google maps application and it gives me step by step instruction. It’s one of my favourite apps. I would have to agree that the 8300 series is the best keyboard on a blackberry. To be honest, its the only look I really like. I love blackberry, but I’m really not a fan of the bold or the new curve’s appearance.

I love the new Curves/Bold2 a lot better than the old Blackberry curves (eg. my old 8320). It’s smaller and lighter too.
I use Google maps a lot too and the maps on the Bold2 loads soo much faster than the Javelin.

I’m using Blackberry Bold..I think that’s 9000?
Yes, can’t live without a bb. As in, my social life would be in ruins without it because it’s bb nation back here in jakarta

Hi Katy, isn’t the Javelin 8900? The 8700 is the Blackberry Storm Onyx or something.. I have the same phone and I can’t live without it! I have completely become a crackberry addict, although I realized I can actually go on a few days without it. Sorta had a BB detox last December and it worked out well.
Good luck with your 9700! I know it’s a great phone =]
P.S. Wooyoung is my phone’s wallpaper hahaha (it used to be 2PM)

Fixed it now! I keep on getting the 8900 and the 9700 mixed up. I wasn’t going to upgrade since I didn’t really need it but it was only $200 so I was like why not and now I’m glad I did.

I am totally looking forward to your 9700 review. I’m in England at the moment and won’t be back in Van until August, but the moment I get back I am going to get BB-ed. I’ve been wanting one for so long but because I won’t be here for 8 months, there won’t be any point in getting a phone that I won’t be using (and a new contract). I’ve heard so many good things about the 9700 though, so I’m hoping to get that when I get back. I’m on the Rogers network too.
