100 Things to Watch in 2010

News & Issues

Things on the list that caught my eye:

Wonder Girls

99. The Wonder Girls – Being a huge K-Pop fan, I tripped when I saw the Wonder Girls on the list. If I were 12 years old, I’d be totally all over those girls… although, I only have room for Korean boyband-teenybopper’ing at my ripe age of 22 right now.

74. Recycling Gray Water – Water is probably going to cost more than gas in the future.

65. Obesogens“chemical compounds in the environment—notably from plastics—that can turn developing cells into fat cells. These stay with a child for life, making weight loss difficult.” Doesn’t that just scare you? We’re creating such a harmful and dangerous world for our children.

Lost

55. Lost Series Finale – Reminds me that I’ve gotta start a countdown until the season ends so I can officially begin my couch-potatoe-ing. Yay!

6. Augmented Reality – “…the superimposing of digital information over physical reality, will make its way into the hands of mass audiences. AR smartphone apps can show where subway entrances are located, reveal prices of nearby homes or label landmarks for tourists. Marketers are getting in on the act, including GE and HP, whose AR game Roku’s Reward has players chase virtual images layered over reality on a phone’s screen.”

5. Asia’s Widening Income Gap – This just makes me sad. Forgot what we were talking about this morning, but boyfriend said: “Guess what makes them rich?! The poor people!!” So true.

Sony, for instance, predicts that 3D sets will compose 30 to 50 percent of all the TVs it sells in its 2012 fiscal year. [source]

1. 3D at Home – Boyfriend and I were talking about this earlier this year and how cool would that be? They’re going to be super expensive when they first come out but prices will probably drop like crazy after the 5 or so years when they start producing something cooler like TV that emits smells… WHEN YOU WANT IT TO (Food Channel.. mmmm).

Here is the complete list of 100 Things to Watch in 2010.

  1. I think The Wonder Girls are not bad, but for me the queen of K-pop will always remain Lee Hyo-ri :) And I’m looking fwd to her next album scheduled for this year. And I watched all Lost seasons. I’m totally addicted and clueless about Jacob, but so curious what’ll happen :)

    83. Spider-Man on Broadway
That scares me a little… it sounds so ridiculous.
Almost as ridiculous as LotR being a musical.

AR technology has actually been around forever. The trick is getting it small and sleek enough that you don’t look like so much of a chump wearing it. And the price/software of course. People use the wireless headsets for their phones now so I guess it isn’t too much of a jump. I always thought it would make the most since to try to integrate it into a pair of sunglasses :)

I’m going to have to pass on 3D at home for a loooong time until all the tweaks are worked out and of course, prices go down! But of course, paying more to be the test bunch may be a good investment, so we’ll see.

I’m not a Wonder Girls fan really.. they were guest performing on an American show that I adore, and they didn’t do too well =X

Yeah or con a friend into buying one so you can mooch off them for now. :P

I’ve actually never really been a Wonder Girls fan but I’m just amazed because not too many K-Pop acts makes it into the American music market.

65 is totally terrifying. Hopefully they come up with ways to get rid of fat cells effectively. I mean, I know there is lipo, but maybe a chemical way… Although that would probably cause more problems. It grosses me out that fat cells never go away even if you lose the weight. :/

  10. ok… 3D at home sounds fun, but wearing those glasses at home? that’s kind of weird, I’d rather just go see 3D in theathers (almost never go the movies these days, but ok..)

I wonder if you would even need them for the home TVs… but even if you did, it might be worth the experience.

It’s crazy, but I’ve seen a lot of hate entries regarding the Wonder Girls. I have to agree though that LOST is the series to watch out for especially when it is finally going to end.

Wonder Girls, I love them!! I saw a video on youtube of a little korean boy dancing to it, hilarious but they are a great group with great music and voice. My goal next year: Lost!

    REPLY

Perfect time to start watching Lost as the last season is ending. Waiting for episodes/seasons suck!!

Great post Katy! Wow lots of interesting and surprisingly things to look for in the coming new year. I love that pic of the Wonder girls, their hair and tights are awesome. I’d be a groupie for their fashion sense alone hahaha. Organic fast food, really? Silent dance parties? those don’t sound fun. Foursquare? I had no idea that thing was still alive and kicking. 3D at home would be cool though. It’s almost scary how advanced technology is becoming.

    REPLY

I can’t ever see silent dance parties ever become the norm… that just looks retarded and defeats the purpose of “partying together.”

3D at home seems exciting alright but it will definitely cost a whole lot of money. Looking forward to this, though. It seems AWESOME.

    Advance happy new year!

@Katy: Haha not unless the Singularity happens within the next 20-30 years. In which case, it’ll either be eternal life, or the Armageddon. http://singularity.org/

Organic fast food. That sounds good, as well as expensive.

Lost only ran 5 seasons? Seems like longer, maybe because I never really watched an episode.

As for 3-D tv, I’ll probably get one when the prices drop, seeing as in my house, we still only have basic cable and haven’t upgraded to a flat screen, plasma, HD nothing tv yet. :(

Fascinating list. Definitely makes me excited for some of the technological and environmental advances that will be coming.

    6. Personally, I think the tech for AR is still relatively young, and it won’t be until 2011 before it’ll start making its way into the hands of mass audiences.

    11. Brighter colors? I’m happy. =D

    47. Jay Chou?? haha

    REPLY

AR and a lot of those technologies listed still have a long way to go but it’s going to be exciting to see all the advances we’re going to make in the next decades. Too bad we can only live so long though.

I saw Jay Chou on the list and went WTF… I didn’t know he was still so popular but then I guess I don’t listen to a lot of Chinese music. I did love a couple of his songs though.
