Things I Love

  • Starbuck’s Orange Mango Banana Vivanno. It comes in grande but the guy gave me a venti yesterday!
  • Soondubu Jjigae. One of my FAVORITE Korean dishes which is basically a spicy stew of tofu, seafood, veggies and lots of chilli powder . Wanna learn how to make it? Check out episode 6 PAM CAN COOK. SOO GOOD.

    Soondubu Jjigae

  • Vietnamese Egg Soda. Am I the only one who LOVES this? It’s club soda + condensed milk + 1 EGG YOLK. Would you drink it?
  • Chinese Desserts. Black sesame soup, red bean coconut jelly, sago soup with coconut milk, silken tofu in ginger syrup, shaved ice and the list goes on… and on.

  • Getting my nails did. It’s hella inconvenient (and LOUD when I’m banging away at my keyboard at work) but I’m a girly-girl after all. I’m going to TJ Nails in a couple weeks… what should I get?

I’d definitely try the Egg Soda. Why not? It seems like it would taste like eggnog. Also, do you get acrylic nails? If so I think you should get a black tip with silver/pink stripes. I always love black, pink, and silver together.

I use this OPI powder they use now because it’s super strong and lasts on me forever since I work on the computer… I have a feeling it is acrylic though even though I prefer gel.

I love black + anything! I usually go with black and some silver too. Great minds think alike!

I love Vivanno too! I got a barista to add green tea to mine (from the green tea frapps) and it was SO good. I don’t get why they don’t come in all sizes anyway.

Is that stew dish like kimchi soup? That’s what it looks like. This adoption campout we go to does an ethnic potluck (I’m sure I’ve mentioned it) with pul-gogi/bulgogi & kimchi soup and it is SO freaking good. I am more obsessed with kimchi than any white girl has the right to be. It’s on my top 5 fave foods for SURE.

I love Asian desserts as well. I’m not a ‘white’ dessert person at all. Once in awhile I’ll have a banana split, but you can take your Ben & Jerry’s and shove it – I’d much rather a rich scoop of green tea or red bean ice cream. I love mochi. I love lychee jelly and canned lychee and, and, and… I want it right now.

BOO to fake nails. I used to get them done all the time, and I love how they look (colored or colored tips, not basic French tipped, sorry, those are synonymous with trashy where I grew up) and love the sound they make typing, but I hate when one breaks off! It’s the worst, and I always felt so OFF until I got them fixed. Anyway, typing is rough on my nails, so I keep them short and squared. I’m obsessed with pedicures though.

“Soondubu Jjigae” literally translates to “tofu stew” so it’s similar to kimchi stew except for..well TOFU. :P I’m actually not the biggest fan of kimchi (it’s alright) but I loveee anything beancurd-related. Have you tried Korean seafood pancake yet? I found out that the T&T near my house sells these pre-made ones you can fry/bake at home for only $4.99 or 2 and they’re actually pretty good. Sooo happy. :P

You should try taro or red bean taro ice cream. It’s so smooth, creamy and refreshing. Have you had shaved ice before? It’s basically shaved ice topped with fruits and sweet sauces. Ooh and grass jelly… it’s VERY refreshing especially in the summer.

If you go to a good salon, the nails shouldn’t break off! If they did a good job filing your nail bed or use a good quality gel/acrylic, it should stick pretty good. Mine rarely breaks off unless I do something really stupid and I just get them refilled when they grow out. I hate it when it comes time to take it off though… sooo painful because your nails are so weak and they are constantly breaking.

I’m way more into kimchi than tofu, but the kimchi soup I’ve had did have tofu in it as well, and we ate it over rice. I NEED to be able to make it. One of these days I WILL make my own kimchi. I can taste the difference between the store-bought stuff and restaurant stuff – Our favorite teriyaki place makes the best stuff, and she always gives me extra. I think it’s novel to her that I love it so much.

I’m so glad I married Asian; I hate ‘American’ food. Other than Asian, I like Mexican and German. (Saurkraut and kimchi are rather similar. ;) )

I’m making a note to try the desserts you mentioned! I haven’t tried taro ice cream, but I do love taro dessert buns!

I love starbucks, korean food, and getting my nails done too :) the food looks so good, you know. You know about them so much more than me, I never know what’s the best to order lol. Anyhoo, the drink with egg yolk? Ummm can’t diss it cuz I haven’t tried it but I gotta brace myself before I do :p

    REPLY

Don’t worry.. it just tastes like fizzy condensed milk. You don’t taste the egg because it apparently gets cooked with the club soda by the chemical reaction.

hahaha – why do so many Asian sweets/desserts have condensed milk as the “secret weapon”?! Everything taste good with a little condensed milk! yum yum

Mmmmmm lol that picture of stew is making me hungry. Anything in stew format is so yummy! All that flavour in the soup, meat & veggies… *droooools* Those Chinese dessert you listed are yummy but the ones I don’t like are the sweet potatoes soup, or bean curd one. Have you been to Hong Kong? Their dessert store “Hui Lao San” is the best.. it’s like Mango with Chinese grapefruit in coconut tapioca.. you can get that drink at Aberdeen foodcourt!

Omg haha that drink sounds nasty =P Anything with ‘egg’ as a drink makes me cringe..may be cause of a bad experience from this woman forcing me to drink egg x milk. Maybe I’ll go try that egg soda sometime soon!

    REPLY

I’ve never had sweet potatoes soup… or at least I don’t think so. It is just sweet potatoes (of “fan sui”) in a gingery syrup? If it is.. I love it!! Hehe. I haven’t been to HK since I was like 5 but I think I heard of that dessert store because people always talk about it. I’m going this summer though so hopefully I’ll finally get to try it!

You can taste the egg because it basically gets “cooked.” It tastes like fizzy condensed milk but even better. Mmmmm. It’s like $2.50 at any Vietnamese try so definitely worth it if you’re thinking of trying it. ;)

The egg soda sounds interesting. I want to try it, but I have this feeling none of the Vietnamese restaurants I go to make that. The search is on!

I’ve always wanted to try the Vietnamese egg soda but my mom wouldn’t let me as a child and I guess I always forget about it now! I’m DEFINITELY going to try it next time!

Chinese desserts are delish. I’m not a big fan of really spicy foods but I’m slowlyyy learning to be able to take in food with a slight kick or too. People are always VERY surprised when they find out i can’t stomach spicy foods, “BUT YOU’RE ASIAN!!!” I know, I know….haha

    REPLY

I’m not a huge fan of spicy foods too but I’m training myself to like it. My boyfriend puts hot sauce in everything and he claims that it makes food taste better but I think it ruins the taste… I like my food taste the way it was originally cooked!

And yeah… YOU’RE VIETNAMESE!! How can you not like spicy food?! LOL :P

droooools at that tofu stew and the tofu with ginger dessert… with pearls! love it! and Vietnamese Egg Soda? never heard of it but i wouldn’t mind trying it… sounds … interesting! hehe!

i dont have 20/20 vision but thats because my eyes were REALLY bad to begin with so they said it would be too dangerous for them to remove too many layers of my cornea. I dont have to wear glasses though so my eyes must be almost 20/20. I’m trying to be careful about my vision dwindling again though because I am in front of the computer a lot at work and even outside of work! =/

I was having dinner the other night at a Vietnamese restaurant and I tried the egg soda. I love it! It’s really good and my friend who works there (and full Vietnamese) say that some people drink it withouth the condensed milk, just egg + soda. =( None for me thanks, I think the milk makes it delicious.
