10 Things I Like About My Job
- AIR CONDITIONING (what a perfect time to publish this entry). At least this should make the bosses happy that I’d rather work longer than leave this building and go melt away with the rest of Vancouver in this unbearable heat.
Whether or not you were born here, you’re a true Vancouverite if you bitch about the weather, be it hot, cold, or rainy. Complain away!
- Free 24-hour gym … with a tanning bed and towel service (you know how they always make you pay extra for that at other gyms). It’s definitely not one of those dinky community center-like gyms either.
- Free Starbucks coffee, free tea, free hot chocolate, etc. at the coffee stations on each floor. Even though I buy my own coffee on the way to work, I have my own stash of Chinese/Japanese teas and I rarely drink hot chocolate… at least it feels good knowing it’s all there.
- Relaxed atmosphere. There’s no one checking up on me every 5 minutes and everyone is chill. I even took a nap in my cube during lunch once when I was severely hung over.
- No dress code. I can wear whatever I want! The only thing is that one day I’ll be really dressed up but the next day when I’m feeling uber-lazy, I’ll be totally fashion faux-pas-ing it (like I’ve been doing this entire summer because I just don’t care about summer clothing). I wonder if anyone notices since I sit with mostly guys anyway.
- Lots of meetings/events/BBQs with free food and beer. Although I don’t take advantage of it all the time… can you imagine how much I’d weigh and besides, I have my own stash of unhealthy snacks at my cube. Plus I don’t drink beer which means I’m wasting one of my benefits!! Oh well. They should serve free bubble tea!! Hyukhyukhyuk.
- The “Gourmet” Cafeteria. The caf has it’s hit-and-misses (like that day they decided to experiment with sushi with processed cheese) and I only eat there a couple times a week but the staff is nice, the sushi chef always makes me my specially ordered chopped-scallop nigiri (sooo good), the salad bar is always good, the breakfast wrap is muy awesome. They also have poutines (my favorite) at the grill station but the gravy sucks. Too bad for me.
- Boyfriend gets to reap away at my benefits. Like the gym… good thing for him because he lives 3 minutes away while I live 20 minutes away. *inserts jealous glare here*
- Cheap games. I get my Sims games (the only game I really like) for very cheap. Gotta thank my company for wasting my life away especially with the release of Sims 3. :dead:
- Pay and benefits. Blah blah blah… uninteresting but it belongs on the list.

OMGGGGGGGGG all of that sounds amazing! A full gym with a TANNING BED? That is impressive! And the coffee? Most places just have their own coffee machine!
I hope you know that I’m reading this in jealousy even though I don’t have a job, haha.

Yeah I was just talking to my BF about how Vancouver is NEVER prepared for the weather like when it snows, the whole city stops and everyone gets into accidents because we have no snow plows or not enough salt trucks.
REPLY
that is freaking awesome!

Geeezzzz I would like to work at a place like that, what with free gym. Not being checked up on, good food, and free coffee? Hellooooooo. Awesomeness!

..and I also get it for cheap at the company store
..and yes the 24 gym is bomb..i go work out during lunch break cuz its like literally a few steps away from my work building

Yeah I do. Never heard of Peets coffee but I’m not that much of a coffee drinker anyway. I love tea more.
I usually only work out late at night or early in the morning because I don’t like waiting for machines when there are too many people there.

Hello Katy!
Your job sounds fantastic!!! You like K-pop!?! Are you a fan of Big Bang? =D
Thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog =D
Unfortunately for my pocket, L’Occitane is not a drugstore brand hahaha. You can find it at 3051 Granville Street V6H 3J9 or 765 Burrard Street V6Z 1X6.
I’d recommend their body and hair products. So far, I’ve only used one of their skincare products which is the Purifying Rice Toner but it didn’t agree with me =(
Are there any concerns you have about your skin? Like is it combo-oily (like mine) or dry or anything really.

Thanks.. I’ll go check it out! I’m actually using Cellinique right now and it’s doing pretty good for my skin but I want to try other products too.
YES I LOVE K-POP!!! I love Big Bang too (who doesn’t?)! Are they your favorite?

I am officially jealous!

You got me at free Starbucks, girl! Where do you work? Google or one of the Google-esque places?? *envies*

Sounds like you have the dream job!
I think one of the biggest on-the-job pet peeves for me is micro-managing. I hate having someone check up on me every 15 minutes to make sure I’m on task. I feel as long as I’m getting the work done efficiently and on time, leave me alone. I think it’s one of the benefits of freelancing from home.

I freelance too but I don’t think I can have that as a FT job because I’m horrible at time management and my mind always wanders off when I work at home.
I hate micro-managing too. After working here, I don’t think I can ever go back to a job that has less freedom than I have now.

I officially want to work at your job. I’d be hopped up on free caffeine all day long. Imagine the productivity rate!! HA! Seriously though you’re job sounds really fun and it sounds like a great place to work.
REPLY
OMG where do you work?? Can I work there too? Haha the number of times the word “free” comes up is so frequent! haha
You’re also a true Filipino by the way if you keep on complaining about the weather. Seriously! haha
Continue loving your job~

It must be a Vancouver thing, cause it sounds just like my job, minus the free gym and I have to dress up. BUT I love dressing up for work, and I can gym elsewhere.
p.s. It’s suppose to be cooler today than the rest off the week. Whooo!

Geeeez girl, where do you work?! I work in a salon and day spa, so I could probably get away with a “10 Things” list, as well. I think your advantages still beat mine by far, though! That’s awesome
