HI THERE, IS THERE SOMETHING SPECIFIC YOU'D LIKE TO READ?

Why I Love Personal Blogs
  • Random.
I don’t follow niche/magazine-type blogs as religiously as I follow personal blogs because it’s always the same kind of content. I’m subscribe to tons but find myself skimming over most of them especially with 800+ new posts in my reader. Don’t get me wrong, I love niche blogs (you can’t compare the two) because they are super informative and are usually interesting but personal blogs are just plain awesome and they’re always random so you never know what’s going to show up next. That’s how I like it. ;) If you need some randomness to spice up your day, check out The Great Demigoddess herself!
  • Personality.
I think some niche blogs feel cold and distant but I love the warm and fuzzy feeling you get from reading personal blogs where you actually get the chance to know more about the person behind it. You feel more connected to the writer which gets you addicted and before you realize it, you’re coming back for another toke of their personalities… it’s kinda like how Pam is my daily dose of Mary-Jane but even better! Haha I kid! Seriously though, drugs are for eff-ing losers that’s why fun personal blogs are my drug.
  • Freedom.
Personal bloggers can go as crazy as they want which helps with my previous point! Also, because my blog is personal, I can write about whatever I want, whenever I want without feeling too bad about alienating my readers since they should know that my blog isn’t catered to a specific topic. I know that I do alienate some readers and I’m sorry but I could really care less about traffic… I still love you guys though and I thank you for coming by occasionally— it brings a tear to my allergy-swollen eyes. ♥

Personal blogs are the best. Honestly, I get kind of bored with some of the niche blogs, even if it is all about something I love. Variety is always a plus!

    You’re absolutely right.

And personal blogs are great. Sure it shows vulnerability (if they’re more about problems), but that’s what we want to see! It’s OK to be human and share something personal.

Being open brings closeness and makes the connection/bond greater.

    I also highly agree!

I’ve subcribed to so many magazines over the past years that I’ve found myself bored silly with the same repetitive content. Spit out and chewed up by the same editors that are paid handsomly to write a highly polished and safe article.

Personal blogs are so much more raw and authentic! And I so enjoy reading them!

I absolutely agree with you. The interaction and human element is so important, especially with a “cold” medium like the Internet, and niche blogs really just don’t provide that the way personal blogs do.

I completely agree! My blog is a personal blog as well, but when I feel like doing a post about some new makeup I tried, or a new recipe I can post it. I’m not limited to posting to a certain topic. Or I can just bitch and complain, it’s a good feeling!

Hey, I’m new to your site and had to comment on this post because i completely agree. I have a niche blog (beauty) but it’s almost also a personal blog (not too personal, but enough I’m comfortable with). It’s so much fun and I agree that some others seem very distant. Blogging is supposed to be about community! :)

That’s why I only follow beauty blogs where it’s more of a personal blog than JUST a beauty blog (eg. like all the ones on Blogspot). I find most of the “corporate” ones too dry and all have the same things like product reviews that everyone else is doing. You can only read so much of that!

I personally feel that personal blogs are much better because they struggle hard and have no advertising spam. Although it is good to read good ads. I visit many blogs in a day and majority of them are personal blogs.

It is very sad to say that there are a few which I could find. I think people like to blog for money rather than their personalities. Anyways, I think personal blogs have more traffic and revenue as compared to other money blogs.

On this planet we should have our personal blogs which should be our names. I am wondering how many of us have such domains? I think that in near future these identities would be counted a lot. I know many designers who have professional blogs but they have personal blogs as well. I always prefer to read their personal blogs.

  23. I am so random and my blog is wayyy too personal. A friend of mine once said that I keep my blog so I can embarrass myself thoroughly and in great detail. I suppose there is some truth in that.

    REPLY

Do all your friends know about your blog though? It’s okay to make it personal if your readers are mostly people you’ll never meet. :o

I’ve had a personal blog for awhile and I prefer reading them, but everyone tells me I need a niche blog if I want readers. But you have told me that people read personal blogs too. Thank-you :) I”ll keep plugging away at it. I don’t need thousands of readers, just some blogging friends :)
