Favorite New Things: May

Favorite Things

  1. Necklace Stand from Urban Outfitters. I wanted to hang my necklaces on my wall but that involved too much work.
  2. Big black sun hat. Had a white one so I had to get a black one as well.
  3. Snake-print Obi Belt.
  4. Scarves. I know it’s getting too hot for scarves but I couldn’t help it. It doesn’t help to stock up!
  5. Books! I’m still waiting for two more boxes but I think I need to get a new bookshelf first. Mine is totally sagging and looks like a huge mess.
  6. Marie Antoinette and The Duchess DVDs. I’ve been meaning to add these two to my collection and finally got it! I needed the MA one because there’s a scene where I want to use as a reference for my wedding in 200 gazillion years.
  7. Crispy Minis. I’m soo addicted to these snacks.

The Great Phnom Penh

WARNING: MSG OVERLOAD!!!

I’m ALWAYS raving about Phnom Penh, an authentic Vietnamese/Cambodian restaurant located in Vancouver’s Chinatown. This time I can actually write about it because I have FOOD pictures thanks to my sister (since I have this thing where I don’t like taking food pics while I eat). The pictures don’t do justice at all and was taken with a Blackberry in really bad lighting. I’ll update this entry with better pictures in the future because I think Phnom Penh deserves awesomely-delicious food pictures and not brought to shame with crappy visuals.

Filet Beef
FILET BEEF ON RICE – Everyone goes to Phnom Penh for the chicken wings but I go there for the Bo Luc La a.k.a. filet beef. I wish Boyfriend’s mom would cook this at home everyday then I’d set up a tent in their kitchen… um, or just a futon.

Butter Beef
BUTTER BEEF – Another one of my favorites. This is like beef sashimi— deliciously-cooked rare beef in an equally delicious sauce and topped with loads of cilantro and fried garlic. See that missing piece? Jimmy Chu says not to be too hasty, but I was too hasty.

Chicken Wings
CHICKEN WINGS – Phnom Penh is famous for their chicken wings and I’ve gotten countless people addicted to it. Mind you, I’m not even a huge fan of deep-fried chicken but I am when I go to Phnom Penh.

Frog Legs
FROG LEGS – We wanted to order something we’ve never had so this was my first time eating frog legs and they (a.k.a. everyone who eats frog legs) were right! It tastes exactly like chicken… maybe even better than chicken!

Clams
CLAMS – The clams are so good! I forgot what they were cooked in but I eat them like I was eat M&M’s; I just kept popping them into my mouth. I think we got jipped though because a lot of the clams were empty or closed. :(

Papya Salad
PAPAYA SALAD – I didn’t order this nor was I a big fan of it but everyone else seemed to like it. I ate a version of this during Boyfriend’s family party where they used green mango instead of papaya and it totally threw me off because I thought I was eating noodles! I was so disappointed that I decided to not like it from that point on.

We also ordered a bowl of noodles (not pictured) and the only thing I forgot to order was my DURIAN MILKSHAKE that I usually order when I go there. :( Oh well. I suggest you drink tea anyway to wash down all the greasy(ly-delicious) foods.

Bill came to about $100 which is not bad because it’s totally worth it!
YOU CAN’T PUT A PRICE ON GOOD FOOD.

“I’m too sick to blog.”

I’m sick which means I have a valid excuse to fill out a survey stolen from Lisa and not publish a proper blog entry (whatever that means). :P I changed the title because I don’t like to consider myself a “fashionista.” You should see me on some of my lazy days… you’ll totally want to stick fashion-faux-pas stickers all over me.

Who is your favorite designer?
Coco Chanel, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander Wang.

If you could come back as a dress, what would it be?

Dior

This haute couture dress was wayy back from Dior's Fall 2007 collection but I just love the color (and the head-piece)!

If you could come back as a model, who would it be?

Gwen Lu

Gwen Lu

Hyun Yi Lee

I also love Hyun Yi Lee's look (these are two of my favorite editorials).

Junk food?

POUTINE GOODNESS.

POUTINE GOODNESS. Great minds think alike! And here's a giant picture of it to make you drool.

What are you most vain about?
Just presenting myself in general …unless I’m lazy and would rather sleep in.

What are you most shy about?
My feet? I hate feet and I have ugly feet.

Who are your fantasy dinner-party guests?

Marie and Georgiana

Marie Antoinette and Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire. I consider both of them the queens of fashion in their time yet they both had such a tragic life.

Fantasy celebrity one-night stand?

<strong/>Jaebeom from 2PM” class=”size-full wp-image-5198″ /><p class=Jaebeom from 2PM. Those guys can't really sing but they sure can dance!

Favorite place to have a drink?
I don’t like sipping on drinks… so maybe at a club taking hard shots. Fruity drinks are for FRUITS!

Underwear?
Anything that doesn’t show an ugly line!

What can’t you travel without?
My purse … WITH EVERYTHING IN IT (wallet, camera, iPod, BB, lip gloss, etc.).

Last book you read?
Last book I finished (finally) was On the Beach by Nevil Shute.

They are the last generation, the innocent victims of an accidental war, living out their last days, making do with what they have, hoping for a miracle. As the deadly rain moves ever closer, the world as we know it winds toward an inevitable end…

At age seven, you wanted to be…
I think I wanted to either be a pediatrician or a surgeon but then late in my senior year at high school, I realized that academics isn’t my thing.

What’s the thing you find easiest to forgive?
Anything.

What’s the thing you find impossible to forgive?
Nothing, I never linger on the past… just forget about it and move on. Well, unless someone borrowed my books and ripped the pages then that’s a different story.

Biggest self-indulgence?
FOOD. :P

Favorite place to shop [brick and mortar]?
Zara, American Apparel, Mimi McQueen, Bebe, Forever 21, H&M, etc.. I shop anywhere and everywhere.

Favorite place to shop online?
Depends for what. I’m always browsing for books on Amazon, also love Asos, Top Shop, Patricia Field Online, Charlotte Russe and TONS more.

Whose diary would you most like to read?
My puppy’s (assuming she could write) because I always wonder what the hell she’s thinking.

Mochi sleeping and in need of a hair cut.

Mochi sleeping (or pretending to because she doesn't want to listen to my annoying nonsense) and in need of a hair cut.

Least favorite food?
Can’t think of anything specific but I’m not a huge fan of spicy foods … boyfriend threw a pepper into my rice bowl once and I ate it and was on the ground for like 2 hours dying. I can’t take the heat!!

If you were an inventor, what would you invent?
Something that would automatically wash and condition my make up brushes. Washing brushes is the biggest chore in the world when you have so many yet you can’t not do it.

Who are your favorite furniture designers?
My dream home would consist of Clive Christian’s furniture but I’d mix it up and modernize it a little more with Roberto Ventura’s designs.

By Roberto Ventura

Car?
I just want a nice SUV… nothing fancy. I love the Lexus RX400H.

What was your childhood nickname?
Chi-chi (I think it was derived from my Chinese name) but pronounced Gi-gi.

When and where are you happiest?
In my bed sleeping in and not having to wake up early.

What piece of art would you most like to own?
An original Alfons Mucha.

What are your favorite vacation spots?
I haven’t taken many vacations but my ideal vacation hot spots aren’t your typical beachy places but it’d be places where you can totally experience culture and has tons of history. I’d be sight-seeing and visiting old temples— not lying on a beach.

Most treasured possession?
My computer hard drive (total nerd answer).

Favorite fictional character?

Legolas

Legolas from Lord of the Rings. Come here you hot, white-haired elf.

Favorite musicians?
SS501, Big Bang, 2PM, Epik High, Wonder Girls, Jinusean, etc. I remember I was obsessed with Korean hip hop back in my preteen days (the YG Family were my gods) and now the obsession is back but this time it has also spread to K-Pop— I have shamefully turned into what they call a “fan girl” once again. I also love Phil Collins, Bryan Adams, Cold Play and Lady Gaga but Asian music I can’t understand FTW (did I just say FTW?)!

KOREAN MUSIC ARTISTS

If you had another profession beside your own, what would it be?
Either a hair stylist or something to do with fashion. I’d consider a professional blogger but I have a feeling I won’t enjoy it as much if it were to become a “job.”

What current trends would you like to see disappear?
Skinny jeans and converse and the most obvious … dun dun dun … ED HARDY. Don’t worry, I don’t judge people who wear Ed Hardy (haha) but I would just never wear it myself. Well, unless Boyfriend wears it then I’ll TOTALLY judge his ass because he should know better. Anyway, I came across another nasty trend that will be added to my list of hatred:

Skinny Harem Jeans

Skinny Harem Jeans. Ah.

Favorite trend of all time?
Jeans tucked into boots and statement jewelry.

Always…
…eat without feeling guilty. Good food means a good life. Mmm. ;) *waits for all the health-nuts to beat me up*

Never…
…let what other people think or say get to you.
