Dalai Lama’s 18 Rules for Living

- Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
- When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.
- Follow the three Rs:
- Respect for self
- Respect for others
- Responsibility for all your actions.
- Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
- Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
- Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
- When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
- Spend some time alone every day.
- Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.
- Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
- Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.
- A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
- In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.
- Share your knowledge. It’s a way to achieve immortality.
- Be gentle with the earth.
- Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.
- Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
- Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

Hey Girl. Thanks for posting this. Definitely inspirational.
Btw, I finished ‘the curious incident of the dog in the night-time’ – it’s a very easy read. You should pick it up when you have time. You mentioned you’re a fast reader right? You’ll probably be able to finish it in a day then

Although each are of value, I think 8 – “Spend some time alone every day” is important especially for me.

I think out of everything listed, #3 hits home for me the most – particularly the part about accepting responsibility for your actions.

13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.
You know what, people ALWAYS do that to me. I don’t understand why.
Actually, it dawned on me. They bring up old shit because we never discussed it or came to terms with it. I’m the type that always want to work it out and talk things thru. If you chose not to, then stfu about it.

#2 really speaks to me. Lols..I sometimes mope and whine over losing or when something does not go my way and I fail to think of the lessons I could have learned from those experiences. Those are all great rules to live by.
