HI THERE, IS THERE SOMETHING SPECIFIC YOU'D LIKE TO READ?

Charice Pempengco

I haven’t really been into the music scene ever since those days when my girlfriends and I would each pick a Backstreet Boy to be and record ourselves performing Backstreet’s Back but I recently discovered the most talented singer in the world (IN THE WORLD!!): Charice Pempengco!

You’ve probably heard of her before but l always discover things like this at least a year too late. I’ve only written about music twice in this blog and so she HAS to be good if I’m writing about music again (not that I have anything against music but it’s usually nothing interesting to blog about). Read on…

She’s Filipino, she’s only 16 yet her voice is freaking powerful and amazing… where the hell does it come from?! She’s so tiny! Amazing. She was discovered on Youtube and introduced to America by Ellen, she’s been praised by Oprah, she’s being produced by David Foster and she performed at Obama’s Pre-Inauguration Concert; I swear this girl is going to be the WhitneyMariahCelineHoustonCareyDion of this generation. I was reading comments on an article and someone wrote, “If she was a drug, I would be in rehab for the rest of my life.” WELL, SAME HERE.

You know how every up-and-coming singer performs “I Will Survive” on every talent show? Well this is probably the BEST version I’ve ever heard.

Sigh. I. Am. So. Amazed.

I seriously wish the best for this girl and I can’t wait to see where her voice will take her!

She DOES have that powerful voice doesn’t she? She’s amazing. I heard she tried out for some singing competition and lost because she didn’t look the part of a singer so basically her YT videos brought her to fame. I bet that show/competition or whoever turned her down must feel pretty stupid right now. hahaha

That version of I Will Survive was arranged by David Foster for Charice and it’s going to be on her debut album, which is going to come out some time this year.

I am literally speechless! She is fantastic … where does that amazing voice come from? Gosh, I totally agree with everything you said about her. I actually first discovered her on Ellen last year and just knew that she was going to go very far in this music industry! I’m happy to hear that other people are slowly starting to find out about her! Great post! =)

Oh she’s great. She’s so cute too, you’re right, so tiny! You wouldn’t think that voice is coming from her. It’s something in Filipino blood maybe, I don’t know, but a LOT of them can sing.
I’m also intrigued that besides the voice, she does the Michael Jackson dance moves!! Did you see, a little moonwalking in there. Wow.

  6. I totally agree with you. Hearing her sing gives me the goosebumps. Who would have thought a voice that powerful would come from someone so tiny. Amazing.

She’s AMAZING. I wish I can say that all Filipinos are great singers but seeing as how I’m Filipino and can’t even sing decently on karaoke, I know it’s not necessarily true :P

wow… she’s really good! the dancing is not really necessary though… lol

    REPLY

Haha yeah the dancing adds some spice to her performance but I don’t think the Michael Jackson moves really suit her look.

    Blog hopping….

Charice has made the Filipinos really proud. There is also another Filipino teen who is making waves in the US/International music industry but not with the same intensity that Charice has created. This other teen sang the soundtrack of Kung Fu Panda.

Yea, that little girl has got some pipes! It’s funny how when a filipina/o goes big in the US, it’s all in the hype of news amongst filipinos. I don’t know if I’m the only one that notices that.

I recently saw a skittles commercial – which they cut most of it possibly cuz of the long airtime of the commercial – but yea, I swear it was hilarious to see filipinos speaking tagalog in a skittles commercial. If you haven’t seen it, keep a look out…it’s hilarious and just unusual lol!

ok so commment#2: I know I went off topic on the whole “filipino” thing LOLLOLO. My whole point about that was you normally see other people from foreign countries on TV but in my opinion, it’s odd seeing someone of my nationality but funny at the same time you know? LOL

    REPLY

I actually love seeing people of my ethnicity (Chinese) and just Asian in general in the media because you don’t see that often here in North America.

    OMG.

She’s Filipino?! I’M Filipino?! Not that it’s relevant in any way ..

But, she’s got a heap of talent. I’ve heard a lot of “song birds” in the Philippines and they are nothing compared to this girl.

She blows me awayyyy. I saw her on Oprah, Ellen, you name it, I saw it. lol. Anyways I wanted to tell you what books I got from your list. I borrowed Blackwood farm from the library, you didn’t recommend that one but I saw how much you admired Anne Rice and decided to pick it up since it was FREE from the library. Then I went to Borders to pick up the Mayfair witches buttt sadly they didn’t have all of it! I bought only Taltos..? the third one? it’s so frustrating because I don’t want to start at the end so I haven’t read it yet =(. I also got Interview with the Vampire since it was her first and am reading that right now. Her writing is mesmerizing, getting sucked into the vampire world again. lol. I read the Twilight saga but Anne Rice’s world is much more complex and the characters are more damaged and destructive, soo THANK YOUU. lol.

I’m pretty surprised I didn’t get to watch her on Obama’s Pre-Inauguration Concert! She really is tiny and she’s amazing. I like how personable she is and cute too! But that guy was right its almost cheating to find her on YouTube via Oprah. But it’s true, if she had not lost on that show in the Philippines and decided to work on her own who knows if she would have been as increasingly amazing as she is now? Opportunities always seem to come up for the people who do not give up! And for that I like her a lot!!!!!

    Helga,

They released an album of cover songs hastily after her Ellen stint. And you are right, she does not have any original song recorded yet. Before she became famous internationally, people in the Philippines thought that she is not pretty enough to be an artist.
