To change it up a bit, I’m going to do style resolutions this year because my usual resolutions are the same every year. Some are new and some are old but here they are:

Dark and sultry is the new sexy. Blond is done ladies (well on non-natural blonds)! Have you noticed all the hot girls are dying their hair dark now? Stop bleaching and frying your hair this year; people will take you more seriously and you get to look all exotic like Nicole Scherzinger and Kim Kardashian. Blond is more interesting but I always though brunettes are hotter (no offense(!!) but compare Kim to Paris) so I can’t wait to dye my hair dark and join them (not like it’ll help much for me though). I might still sport some blond lowlights if I don’t have the guts to go purple because I’m not a girl to have one hair color… but definitely no highlights or all-over blond. Also I want to try straight bangs and maybe a wavy perm this year.

Purple. Thank god purple is still considered “trendy” because I LOVE PURPLE although I’d still wear it for years to come despite what the fashion nazis say. I remember a couple years ago, my sister bought a purple sweater from Zara and I was like, why the hell would you wear purple? What the heck was wrong with me? I was pondering for a long time whether to blog about that because that’s such a hypocritical story and I’m so ashamed of myself.

Gold. Everybody is doing gold now from Vivienne Westwood to Dior to Louis Vuitton. I use to be a huge silver fan but I’ve been wearing a lot of gold colored clothing and accessories lately… mainly because I discovered that purple looks awesome with it so now I’m officially addicted. I’d want a white-gold wedding band though (*hinthint*Boyfriend).

Necklaces. I LOVE accessorizing with necklaces whether they be huge and chunky or just layering thin chains, they can effortlessly complete any boring looking outfit. I will also expand my scarf and belt collection (and accessories of all sorts) because you can wear the exact same outfit but change up the accessories and it’ll look totally different. You can never have enough!

Prints. I’m not too bold when it comes to prints and colors but 2009 is the year for it so I might as well take a step forward and sport more of it in my wardrobe as well.
Other resolutions:
- Spend less on clothing and become a bargain shopper. I feel icky wearing people’s throw aways but I need to put that aside and check out those thrift stores because everyone seems to be finding fab stuff in them.
- Buy a sewing machine. Learn to use it. Hem my own jeans. I have 11 pairs of designer jeans that I haven’t worn yet because I’ve been too lazy to get them hemmed and it really adds up.
- Stop buying designer jeans. Thankfully, I don’t care much about designer items except for jeans but I don’t need anymore and designers are slashing the prices because of the economy so they’re not even special anymore. I can sell a couple pairs to get that sewing machine and do more DIY projects with it as well.
- Change my purse more often. I have a habit of carrying the same bag for 5+ months because I don’t want to move my stuff from one bag to another. I really need to buy some bag organizers to make it easier on myself.
- Be more high maintenance. GASP.I may seem like it but I AM NOT HIGH MAINTENANCE. I might take a long time getting ready for a night out but on a daily basis, I’m lazy as heck. I never gave a crap about my skin (and somehow I still have clear skin). I don’t style my hair unless I’m going for a night out in town. I don’t make an effort on weekdays when I have work (I don’t know why people do, there’s no one to look good for anyway… it reminds me of girls who work at McDs with caked on make up and fake lashes). I always forget to pluck my eyebrows. I don’t remove chipping nail polish; I just continue to chip it all off. I don’t even always properly remove my make up before I go to bed. I shall change all this in 2009.
- Wear more make up. I know people say you should go natural but I went through a make up phase where I bought sooo much so I need to use them all before they expire. Currently, I only make an effort with make up on the weekends and barely on weekdays.
- Make an effort to look good everyday. This will definitely be hard… if you see me everyday, you’ll see how inconsistent my outfits are. Some days I’ll be totally glam-ed up while on other days I’ll be wearing a totally mismatching and boring outfit with no accessories… and maybe even flip flops because I left my boots at home. The problem is that I stay over at Boyfriend’s a lot and I tend to leave stuff home so I need to consider moving some of my wardrobe to his house.
- Start growing out my hair. First step is to make it healthy which is already in progress because my hair wasn’t growing before from bleach overload. I want long hair so I can have supermodel waves… I’m bored of the stick-straight hair. I think I’m just going to cheat and get a weave.
- Shop with a plan. The only time I ever go shopping (not online) is during my lunch break so I don’t have much time because I’m too busy (OR LAZY) to otherwise. It’d be a lot more efficient if I come up with a list of specifics before heading out.

Oh great entry! (Mind if I copy the idea? If you mind I won’t).
I agree with you on brunettes and dark hair color. I think it’s so much more versatile, and brunettes look good in several other colors than blonds.
I can’t say I’m gonna spend less money on clothes this year, but my general plan is to save money, so shopping less would be a result of that.
Great entry (again)!

I’m not too bold with prints either… but I really like all your image boards, especially the purple! You totally sold me, hahaha.

I got bored with my straight hair earlier last year and went to get a permanent perm. It looked nice for around 2-3 months and after that it got really messy. Plus it is also hard to take care of; you have to get serums and various hair cream otherwise your hair will become very dry. So after 6 months, I decided to straighten it again.

I agree, most people I know who got perms turned out looking pretty bad too so I don’t know what I was thinking wanting to get one… and with my low maintenance personality, it would be a total pain in the ass even though I resolve to try change that. Wavy hair looks hot though when it’s tamed!

Both the wifey’s engagement ring and our wedding rings are white gold. I love em though. I just can’t ever go with regular gold anything — makes me feel to gaudy.

Dark hair is hot! But aw, you’re going to do away with your red for a bit?
Purple goes good with gold?…true, and purple also looks really good with dark hair!
i agree with the high maint. one. I should’ve listed that as mine too. I’m just like that, always got tons of lotions for gifts and never lotion after i shower, rarely go the full on wash my face (just splash it with water)…2009 is a time to take care! good luck my friend.

We’re very alike. It feels wrong to say you *want* to be high-maintenance, but I find it hard to motivate myself to put on makeup and sometimes even wash my hair if I know I’m staying in that night. I’m doing 365 self-portraits for Flickr and a big part of that is to force myself to look good daily. If nothing else, the boyfriend will see me looking good.
I used to think girls who were gold were so tacky, and now I choose it over silver all the time.
I love all of those hair pics. I need to get my hair cut into bangs. For sure darker is sexier, and easier to maintain!
I grew up on thrift clothes, and the key is to mix them in with your existing wardrobe. A whole outfit of used clothes makes you feel gross and poor, but wearing a thrifted scarf with your designer jeans and tank just adds some vintage appeal to your outfit. I almost only thrift accessories but when you do stumble upon a perfect secondhand top, just hand wash it or have it dry cleaned.
It’s cool you’re trying to cut back, but most cheap jeans suck and fall apart. F21 are actually my faves of cheap denim.
Great post!

Thanks for the thrifting tips J, that will totally help. I agree, thrifting for accessories and smaller pieces make a lot more sense than an entire outlet.
I’ve use to wear Seduction jeans a lot when I was younger before I moved onto RRs and TRs so I haven’t tried jeans from any cheap retailers for along time but I’ll definitely look into F21. I just liked the designer ones better because the material seems thicker and more sturdy (although that doesn’t mean they won’t rip like some Rock and Republic washes).

i just started to like purple too! lol all thanks to jess..
i always tell myself to wear makeup when I go out even if its just foundation, concealer and blush because you never know who you’re going to bump into. I don’t think ill ever be able to use up my makeup.. I have makeup i bought from 3 years ago and I havent thrown it away lol.. I don’t throw away my makeup unless it breaks out my skin -.-

I only got into purple clothes after getting obsessed with purple eye shadow. =P
I’m not a huge fan of make up on my face but I always carry some press powder with me just in case and bronzer. I’m a huge fan of eye make up though so I try to wear some eye shadow everyday because I love having color on my lids.
I don’t throw away make up too *shhh* but I don’t really use it either.. I just let it sit there. It’s so bad!

i swear this trend goes around in circles. i think i’ve lived through black, blonde, black, blonde and now black and my hair is the same. haha~ the bleach thing scares me because i don’t really take care of my hair.
oh yes purple and gold go very well together. purple is the colour of royalty for the Romans after all and gold for Asians. Haha~ I was a silver girl too.. well a white gold girl. :p i’m pretty much like you in low maintenance.. now i’m trying to make an effort when i go out.. i’m usually the one with the trackie dacks and tee.. but now i’m trying to dress up a bit just in case people change their mind and i don’t find myself in tees and shorts standing outside a bar

I am having Cali [food] withdrawal! My boyfriend and I are gonna hunt down a good mexican restaurant and make them make us carne asada fries!! Mwahaha.
It’s not too bad in Canada.. I’m use to it by now and I actually enjoy the rain.

I love gold! I wear it all the time. As for the dark hair, I’m contemplating that right now, too. I have light brown hair right now with blond high lights and I feel so washed out. I want something warm – maybe a chestnut, but I’m not sure yet.
Purple is so pretty. And I think it matches with everything. Especially a dark tone purple.
I would love to start growing my hair, but I need to trim it first. I’ve got split ends up the wazoo.

Maybe the blond highlights are making you feel washed out.. you should dry a dark brown with maybe copper highlights or something that’s not as light as blond. It’ll look hot and give your hair dimension.
Dark purple is the best! I don’t actually own anything that’s a lighter shade of purple.

I LOVE brunette hair.
If someone looks good in brunette, then it means they can look in any color, since the color is so plain and neutral.
Like, I know a lot of blonds who need blond hair in order to stay attractive, thus dying their hair brown or black wouldn’t do them justice.

If you take a good look at some blonds’ faces (eg. like the ones you see on MTV), they’re sooo fugly but they only look hot because of the blond hair.

Hee! I’ll happily stay non-high maintenance! I don’t have time to primp myself since I cherish sleep. XD Waking up early to look good is not my idea of fun.
And yay for thrift shops! Of course there are some things I still wouldn’t buy . . . secondhand. Underwear comes into mind. Socks. Shoes. And yeah. But I have no problems with shirts. XD Pants . . . well there’s no dressing room at my thrift shop, so I don’t bother with pants.
As for hair, I like my hair brown rather than black because I look better in lighter colours. Unfortunately, I dyed and permed my hair about a month and a half apart from another, so it’s a bit . . . damaged. So right now I’m just leaving it alone, but I will get it highlighted sooner or later. XD
Interesting list of resolutions!

I’ve had light color for so long that I think I look really bad with dark colors too. I think going from that jump is a DRAMATIC difference and can be a huge shocker but you’ll get use to it. I threw on a dark brown wig at a hair store once to see how I’ll look with the color and I was a little scared to dye my hair that dark because I wasn’t use to it at all.

you will loooove having dark hair. a few years ago, RED was my thing. i then went to purple. lol. then i went to dark black/brown. i love having dark hair! i wouldn’t have it any other way! it’s so shiny and healthy looking. just don’t freak out when you go dark. it’s always a shock but you get over it. hehe. about the arm warmers, aren’t they cute? aly made them for me =) oh, your jeans resolution is like me. i have TR jeans that have not been worn cause i’m too lazy to hem them. do you know it’s been like over a year?!?! maybe 1 1/2 years since i got them and i haven’t worn them! i can’t give up designer jeans. i loooove them. that’s my biggest splurge. i love having jeans that fit my body. ppl freak out that i spend so much on jeans, but it’s worth it. i hate buying jeans that get holes in them 5 months later =( about the tree, i decorate it myself. my mom does the livingroom tree and all the other kids’ rooms herself. she is pretty crafty. she gets bored easily, i guess. hehe.

I love designer jeans because the material is so much better than cheap jeans and they are sooo comfy (eg. I call SFAM jeans “sweatpant jeans”). It’s ok though, jeans are the only thing I splurge on… you don’t see me spending hundreds and thousands of dollars on purses or shoes!

Which Anne Rice books did you get? You HAVE to read The Lives of the Mayfair Witches.

And I’m sure with the snow storm, no one is going to notice what you’re wearing because everyone is too busy getting into accidents and getting their cars stuck into the snow anyway.

If you buy crap you’ll end up with a tangled matted birds next on your head! I’m about to go on my 3rd install with the hair I ordered in Sept., it gets better with every wash….. I finally found a good weavologist in, CT she charges $150, which isn’t bad, and she really knows her stuff and how to handle remy hair. I was seeing a girl named “Chocolate” in the projects (yeah her name was actually “Chocolate”. She charges $30 but doesn’t know jack about remy hair & sitting in her apt. is a trip, I actually met a real life hooker!
