Things I Love

  • Catching movies late at night on PPV with Boyfriend. NO NOT PORN! All his porn channels are blocked out anyway *insert shifty eyes here* But seriously, watching at night is so much more fun plus it’s an excuse not to sleep even though I have work the next morning. I guess the only thing is that Boyfriend can actually stay awake during the day since we have totally different sleeping patterns: he’s an early-bird and I’m a night-rat (sleep is such a waste of time) …so imagine how much we actually see each other.
  • Going to the gym. It’s so damn hard getting into a regular gym routine but once your in, it’s super motivating. The only thing that makes me mad is when people leave their weights ALL OVER the ground where I want to pull out the mat to do my grueling fun 500 ab exercises (can you believe it, I actually have fun doing them now). It’s like HELLO I’M WEAK (and lazy)… I CAN’T MOVE THOSE WEIGHTS! Also when girls (and guys) hog up all the space and stand in front of the mirror and stare at themselves for 20 minutes. :@ They seriously do that. I watched someone do that last night while I was sulking angrily in the corner.
  • The Grass Roots – Let’s Live For Today. I remember a couple weeks ago I heard this song in a commercial on TV and I screamed to my sister: “LOOUUUU WHAT SONG IS THAT?” She didn’t know so I googled the lyrics and now we’re both addicted. This will definitely be one of those songs that I’ll never get sick of; I just wished I was alive when it first came out in 1967 (I always wondered what it’d be like to be a hippie anyway).
  • Mayfair Manor New Orleans. Writing about Anne Rice in my last entry makes me to go there even more; I just hope it’s as beautiful as she described and as delicious as the Food Network makes it look. Sigh. Plus I want to try real southern [home-style] cuisine because fried chicken can’t get any sexier than how they make it down there. Mmmm. I’ll definitely have to bring jeans 2 sizes up when I go.

(Pictured right: House that inspired the Mayfair Manor in Anne Rice’s The Witching Hour.)

  • Winning stuff (or not)! I obviously didn’t win the coolest WP blog competition but I placed higher than I thought I would’ve! I was talking to a friend on the first day and I was telling her how I was stressed out and wanted to drop out because I have too much pride than to come in last place yet I was too lazy to promote my blog to get more votes. LOL. But at least my second-favorite (other than myself, of course) won so I’m happy.

    1. New Orleans is awesome. I haven’t been since Katrina, but growing up in Houston and having friends in Baton Rouge, my family and I went to NO several times and I always loved it. It’s an amazing fusion of cultures, people, music, food, and architecture. I definitely want to go back.

    2. I definitely read that as, “I’ll have to bring my size 2 jeans when I go down,” and I was all, OMG IF THOSE ARE YOUR FAT JEANS I HATE YOU. Then I reread more carefully. :P

(Although based on your pics they probably COULD be your fat jeans…)

    3. Pssh on contests. I’m recently realizing (not for the first time) that while I love blogging, I need to remember that it’s not my main goal in life to be an A-list blogger, and my blog is meant to be a place I can record my thoughts, my evolution, things I like, etc. Not what draws the most traffic or gets the most clicks on ads.

    So stay cool. ;)

I don’t mind contests (as long as they have a good prize) but I’m not a fan of popularity contests because that doesn’t really judge you on skills. I agree though, I definitely don’t want my blog to turn into something like Dooce’s because it’ll turn into something like a job where you’re forced to come out with quality entries and watch your words so you don’t stir up drama (which your employers may find).

    REPLY

Yeah, haha, actually Dooce WAS what I wanted my site to be like. For about… four days. Then I realized I’m not Dooce, and I’d rather just be me. :)

As a southerner, I both agree and appreciate that comment (laugh). And if you think the chicken is good, you should try the BBQ. I’m partial to the east North Carolinian style, but probably because, well, that’s were I’m from. I swear NC’ers are so insane about their BBQ that it honestly wouldn’t surprise me we start a war over it and split the damn state in half.

    REPLY

Mmmm I should’ve mentioned BBQ too… my favorite shows on the food network are any of the ones related to Southern cusine and BBQs (especially ones with those huge, delicious juicy rack of ribs that they mop the sauce on). And I can’t forget the mac and cheese. Now I’m getting hungry.

I’m from Louisiana, and I’ve spent a looootttt of time in New Orleans. The food is pretty sexy. Everything is sexy. AND FUN! But it’s fun all over the state. ;)

I agree… watching movies with the hubby is one of my favorite pasttimes… especially if it’s a movie that makes us both laugh. Then we can laugh at least other for laughing :)

The gym was something that I was once motivated in going… I did so well after I came back from holidays! But now, I’m so not motivated to go… it’s not even anymore… but i’m totally gonna try to step back into it after New Years.

    REPLY

I love how after New Years, the gym is super packed because everyone made it their resolution.. then 2 weeks later, it’s dead again.

I’ve been wanting to go to NO, too! I’ve been obsessed with that place for over a year now, even though I have never even been there. I don’t know what’s left of the city, but I really love seeing pictures of all the saints statues. If they are still up, I would love to see them in real life.

I so feel you on the gym. Once I go twice in a week, I will go every other day consistently, but if something makes me miss a day, it’s so hard to get motivated into starting up again. I’m in that rut now. Will try to break it after this weekend. I need to get free weights at home so I have no more excuses… When I move, I likely won’t have a gym to go to anymore.

By the way, I’m excited about moving, but it’s stressful because I have to pay off my old place *this month* so that I can move, and we don’t have a place picked yet. I always say my next place will look how I want, but it never works out. This time I told the BF he has no say and I’m decorating how I want, even if that means his movie posters go in the closet. (I actually like movie posters frames, but they are too small for the frames so you can see an inch of cardboard on the top and bottom border… NOOO.)

What do you do for your abs?

    REPLY

They say that if you buy work out equipment at home, you’ll end up not using it… because wouldn’t you rather be sitting in front of the TV (or computer) and much on french fries? I would!! :P

Oh you haven’t found a place yet? I hope you find a nice one then! That’s exactly what I said to my BF.. he has absolutely NO say in decor. He’s just there to pay for the house. LOL kidding!

    REPLY

Oh as for abs, I do about 10 reps of a variety of crunches, 30 sets each non-stop then I do about 250 bicycle crunches. 550 crunches seems like alot but if you do a variety, it’s easier, works out different parts of your abs and never gets boring. The hard part is that you have to REALLY concentrate because if you don’t take breaks in between each set, you’ll probably end up slacking off and not doing it correctly and maybe even hurt your back and/or neck.

I like it this way because once I start taking breaks, I get lazy… and I find this works better (and faster!). Maybe I’ll write a more specific entry about it later or I’ll email you more details when I’m free (it’s 2am now.. gotta sleep soon).

    REPLY

I used to have free weights in my apartment and I would do workouts while watching TV lol. I got rid of those weights because we have a gym here but I ended up working out less. I really enjoy weights though – it’s cardio I hate doing. I enjoy doing abs, although that does sound like a lot!

I hate working out at home!! It’s so easy to slack off.. I have all these work out videos but I can’t stand doing them. Maybe it’ll be funner if you do it with someone else but still. :S

I have to say, I also love watching late night movies! It’s fun to start a movie at midnight rather than the typical 7pm time.

Going to the gym is also awesome too. Getting into it is hard sometimes, but once you’re there, you’re really there! 500 Ab exercises? What do you do?

New Orleans looks so nice, I’ve always wanted to go. My brother went for Mardi Gras one year and said people were puking and guys were peeing everywhere, gross.
