Black is the New Sheep Y’all!

Black Sheep There’s been something that’s been irritating me lately. It’s when people get so use to seeing certain things the way they are but when something suddenly appears differently, they refuse to accept it and welcome it with an open mind.

Lately, I’ve been thinking of what makes me different in the way I think and the things I do in relation to everyone else I know. If there’s something that I’m afraid of, it’s losing my identity and just being a clone of everyone else. Of course, I would never deliberately change my opinions just to be different but if I do think or do something differently than others, then I definitely won’t be ashamed to admit it and I’ll tell the world, not like anyone would care but still! I use to be really judgmental when it comes to these things when I was younger but I’ve become a better person now due to being more accepting.

People like to make fun of me for reading so much and what do I do in response to that? I’ll whip out my 1300 paged book and start reading right in front of them. If people ask me why the hell I’m listening to so and so while driving, I’ll just blast the music even louder (besides, you’re in MY car). I know they’re joking but my point is that there’s nothing wrong in doing something you love even if other people like to criticize it.

I remember when Facebook officially switched to their new look, I changed my status to “I LOVE the new FB!” because I was getting 20 invitations a day to groups hating on the new look. A friend asked me if I only did it because everyone else was being a hater and to tell you the truth, I did. Don’t get me wrong, I actually liked the new look A LOT but the only reason I did it was to differentiate myself from everyone else and hopefully piss some people off in the process because their non-stop whining was getting unbearable. I bet most of them are those who would stick animated GIFS and backgrounds and other atrocities on pages if they could anyway.

Another example is when I changed my font size to something overwhelmingly big last week. There was generally positive feedback but a lot of people also thought it was way too big… of course I totally respect their opinions but it just goes to show how change isn’t easily accepted. I realized that the huge font doesn’t work with my particular theme but I still think the huge font DOES work. Check out diaua.com for example, It’s an image-less layout and I think the huge font looks awesome and appealing; but not surprisingly, she some lost points for the overwhelming font size (like I did) on rev.iew.me. Apparently, if it doesn’t look like your standard blog, then it’s not up to par. The whole topic is a little controversial though because you’re suppose to design a website for the visitor in mind but still, it’s a shame. And just for the record, my next theme will have a 14pt size, like it or not. Hehehe. Luckily, all you have to do it a CTRL + or – if you don’t like it!

^ I know the above paragraph is a teeny-bit irrelevant but I just had to add it in there to justify my thoughts on my huge-ass font!

That was a lot of rambling up there (something I’m good at) but if you didn’t read the whole thing, the point I was trying to get across is: DON’T BE AFRAID TO THINK DIFFERENTLY DESPITE OTHER PEOPLE’S CRITICISMS. In the end, you’re the winner because you’ve made yourself stand out from the rest of the crowd.

I can get why certain people would be turned off by a website with huge font at first first. It’s kind of like reading a book that has 20 pt font. Wouldn’t that be a bit much, perhaps? Unless, of course, you like reading those novels that have huge type.

Personally, I like diana’s font size, but not because it’s different. I mean, it is different, but I like coming across websites that utilize huge fonts anyway. (I have this obsession with big, pretty typefaces) As long as it’s not huge bodys of text, it’s all good.

People make fun of me all the time about my weird music taste. I’ll admit, I do have weird taste in ALL kinds of music but I’m quite proud of that. :)

I totally agree. I’m one of those out of who I know that is very different to everyone else around me…even in my family I’m definitely the odd one out! There was a point when I used to hate being different and there were reasons why, but now I’m proud that I like different things, that I love almost all types of music instead of conforming to just one little group. Btw, i loved the font, and go you for having it on the next theme no matter what :)

Hahaha I can totally relate, actually. I enjoy differentiating myself from the crowd (and that does not necessarily mean I want to be the centre of attention, contrary to what some people think). I think I actually pride myself on being the odd one out. Change will always scare people, though.

I know what you mean. I actually HATE being in the center of attention (I don’t even like it when people say “happy birthday” to me!) but I love being the “odd one out” too.

I do like the look of your blog right now without the font hugeness, but I do agree that it can work. Like skinny jeans or like UGGs =D

I really like this post, it gets me thinking about what differentiates me from the crowd too… People are all way too similar nowadays that all the special little things tend to get lost…

Hmn… I also really like the new facebook, I didn’t realize that we were a rare species..

I feel like people on website review sites sometimes have questionable knowledge and taste on web design, but I guess everyone has opinions and everyone’s opinion is valid so it’s good to know what they are.

Woah, I honestly thought I was the only person that does things differently just because I don’t want to be like everyone else! I hate being like others and I feel like everyone should worship their individuality and stop trying so hard to be like others and stop trying to fit in. When everyone was screaming Obama’s name and saying we want a black man, I screamed out “EFF OBAMA AND MCCAIN, I WANT PEDRO TO WIN!” lolsz it was funny… and it wasn’t all too true cause of course I wanted Obama to win, but at the same time I wanted McCain to win so basically I was confused on both and just said eff it, I want Pedro to win. [Napolean Dynamite]. I read alot too and people laugh at me, and I just say “that’s why ya’ll are not going to go ANYWHERE in life”. They get mad, but oh well.
