I haven’t been so hooked on a book since finishing all of Terry Goodkind‘s last November. I just finished reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer and it’s the deepest and most beautiful book I’ve ever read. It’s a mixture of science-fiction, suspense and romance and I recommend it to anyone; I swear you will LOVE it. I’ve never been the biggest fan of romance novels, but the sci-fi aspect of it caught my eye when I read the book jacket. You can read an excerpt of the book at her website here. I couldn’t stop thinking of this book after I finished it and I think I’m going to read it again since I have to wait until next weekend to buy her Twilight series in Seattle. Ah the agony of waiting! I bought The Host at Chapters for $30 because I was impatient but it’s on Amazon for $18.26! Damnit. Oh well it was so worth it… I think I will buy the paperback edition when it comes out too.
This book is now at the top of my favorites list, sharing the spot with The Witching Hour (Anne Rice) and Lord of the Rings (J.R.R. Tolkien) and a bunch of others. I can’t say I have ONE all-time favorite book because that’s just impossible!
I lied because I did read a biography on Madame Chiang Kai-Shek a couple weeks before I started reading this and I was totally hooked on that book too. Except it’s a whole different genre so it doesn’t count.
I think I stayed up till 6am last night reading The Host on Saturday night and Boyfriend tries to wake me up at 11am to go for dim sum. He’s crazy!!! But I managed to get my arse out of bed and pig out with him. Ironically, I blogged about Mother’s Day gift ideas but didn’t realize it was Mother’s Day until Boyfriend reminded me that morning. LOL. But mother didn’t come since she was already cooking but I was forced to go out for dinner with her and her Chinese lady friends. Talk about boring and awkward, plus the food wasn’t as exciting as usual. At least I didn’t have to dig in with my hands to eat the giant prawns which Boyfriend peeled for me (yeah I’m that lazy).

OH! I think I’m going to read that Anne Rice book you said was one of your top books. I really liked the movie Lord of the Rings and I’m thinking I’ll love the book even more. Right now my favorite books are Harry Potter Deathly Hallows, Harry Potter and The Half-Blooded Prince, and Memoirs of a Geisha. I love movie books because I have a hard time creating random characters in my mind. LOL. I’m not as creative :/

I loveee all those books you mentioned. If you loved the LOTR movie, you’ll love the books even more because the movie cuts out soo much of the storyline and detail. You should def. read The Hobbit as well. As for the Anne Rice book, it’s extremely mesmerizing and intriguing… you’ll be dying to visit New Orleans afterewards.

Was it based on the book (which is new btw)… or maybe the book was based on the movie? I’ll have to look into that though.

Random, but: I LOVE peeling prawns! There’s something really appealing (to me anyway) about rolling up your sleeves, and getting your hands dirty. I always peel prawns for everyone on my table!

I’ve had king crabs earlier this year too and they were soo yummy. I still prefer lobster over anything else though. Yummy.

Mmm you’re making me hungry! I love crabs. King Crabs are ok, they taste more like lobster to me. I like snow crabs best. I still have to try dim sum. I will get to it
The Host, huh? I have read Twilight and New moon, but I got stuck at Eclipse. I just can’t get through it. It’s all starting to sound too Buffy and Angel for me, but I did watch a trailer of the movie, so maybe it will help me get through it. I’m kind of bad though…I really want Jacob and Bella to hook up LOL.

I only want to read it because once I discover an author that I love, I’ll have to read all of his/her books! Since it’s a romance, I really hope I can finish it because like I said, I’m not a huge fan of romances!

I’ve never really read any of Stephanie Meyer’s books but I they do have quite a reputation of being a bit like fanfiction. Maybe when I have the time I’ll read them. The twilight movie sounds interesting too.
Btw I love king prawns! basically i love shellfish

I hope not! The Host was wonderful though but I think I loved it so much because it was also sci-fi. I’ll have to see about Twilight although I’m really excited to read them.

Just looking at the cover has been intrigued. I’m actually going by the mall tonight and I’ll pop in Barnes and Noble and see how much a copy is there
I love when people recommend good books, because I haven’t read one in quite some time.
“Chinese lady friends” this cracked me up.

When I was in the mall earlier, I saw this book, and it looks pretty cool… I’m not too much into science-fiction, but I’m going to read the excerpt and see if it’s alright. I want to read that Madame one after I read a bit of its review. Sounds interesting for sure!

Yeah the Madame CKS is really inspiring and powerful, because it’s a biography… I wish I read her book when she was still alive.. it would’ve been an honor to meet her.
REPLY
I haven’t heard of her books, but it sounds good. I might add it to my (way too long) To Read list. I do like sci fi. BTW, do you have Library Thing? I use it and it’s a fantastic way to keep my book lists organized. Okay I’ll stop sounding like an infomercial now.

Yep I use the Now Reading plugin for WP. I’ve been REALLY bad with updating it though.. I have about 30 newly purchased books I haven’t added on there yet!

I have The Host ebook but I haven’t read it yet. I did read the first book in Twilight and part of the second, but I couldn’t finish it because I didn’t really like it :/ I don’t get what everyone sees in it, it’s kind of slow/dull and the writing isn’t that great to make up for it.
