Booti-ful Houses

Inspired from one of my previous posts. Here is a collection of beautiful homes in the Garden District of New Orleans that I want to own some day…

This is the famous Greek Revival townhouse which was also the setting of Anne Rice’s The Witching Hour!! I actually never knew this house really existed until a couple months ago and omigosh, you wouldn’t be able to imagine my excitement. Of course, she owns this place as well. When I go to New Orleans, that will be one of the first places that I drag Boyfriend to. Too bad I won’t see Deirdre Mayfair sitting on the front porch and Stella wouldn’t be having one of her parties, but it will still be fascinating. Ooh, and it’s said that if there is a black limo parked outside, that means Anne-is-in-tha-house!

This is a French Second Empire-style mansion. I would love to live in a mansion surrounded by a vast lawn dotted with huge trees because there is some kind of mystique to it. Okay, maybe a moderate sized lawn unless I’m super rich and have a couple gardeners. Don’t expect me go outside and do any landscaping because bugs freak me out.

Can you say BEAUTIFUL!!? I’ve always wanted to live in a house with gigantic white columns like this Greek Revival townhouse. If you ever want to look “rich,” just build a couple of these columns around your house… well you’d probably have to have some wealth just to get these made.

This is Claiborne Cottage, also owned by Anne Rice. So cute don’t you think? I want a house with a nice, big porch as well to sit, read and people watch. Black iron fences always remind me of my grandparents’ house in Saskatchewan and they always add a little touch of class. My houses in Sims 2 always have black iron fences. Harhar.

Another beautiful house and guess what? Peyton Manning grew up here! This can be our second stop in New Orleans just for Boyfriend (but he probably won’t care much about the house anyway).

If you haven’t noticed, I want everything. I could go on and on but this will do for now.

So THAT’S how it feels like…

Wow today was probably the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to me. Having ANNE RICE comment on my blog is like having Justin Timberlake comment on some teenybopper’s blog. I’ll try my best not to but I’ll probably be blogging about this for days. Can you imagine if an author you totally admire and look up to takes their time to comment on something that you did? That feeling is so amazing and especially if you love love LOVE books like I do. My heart seriously skipped a beat when I read it and I just stared into my monitor for like 10 minutes not believing it. And not to mention that I was totally distracted from work for the rest of the day!

And no, I don’t think an “imposter” would be capable of writing like that unless it was just someone whose really determined to crush my hopes! If so, I would still like to think otherwise, thank you very much.

I feel like a… teenybopper in a… ummm… Backstreet Boys concert.

But thank YOU, Anne, for making my day.

But anyway, now I have no clue on what to blog about anymore. If Anne ever stumbles back here again, my words are soo unworthy for her eyes to read.

ANNE RICE WAS HERE!!

Did THE Anne Rice just comment on my blog?!?!?

OMG OMG OMG I’m just sitting here in front of my desk at work and I want to jump around like a little girl. :D I hope it wasn’t an imposter or one of those automated messages (because why would she come here out of the billion of blogs on the internet) but nevertheless I feel sooooooo flattered. This is totally the highlight of my day!!

Thanks Anne!!

Thanks for your kind words about my books. I think the classy intellectual words for us lovers of castles is “post modern.’ I’m learning that my adjective laden prose is “post modern.’” And when it comes to music, I’m wrapping myself in Vivaldi and Mozart, and digging up Amadeus to watch it for the fifteenth time. I think the Vampire Chronicles hit a nerve because people crave beauty, and we see around us in the modern world a kind of anti-beauty that can be a bit sterile. However, I must put in a word for the blue eyed blues of Bonnie and Delaney. That is really gorgeous stuff. —- Again my thanks for your kind comments. Katrina left the best parts of New Orleans still standing, and with oaks spreading their branches over the Grecian columned townhouses as always….Much love, Anne Rice.

The Queer in Me

Isn’t it funny how one person can change in such a short amount of time.

A year ago, if you asked me what kind of music I liked best, the first thing that would come out of my mouth with no hesitation was hip hop and R&B. If you ask me now, I’d wouldn’t know what to say because I listen to EVERYTHING now from country slow jams, oldies, soft rock… blah blah blah … and hip hop would probably be the LAST thing that I would list. The one thing that really annoys me are when people are so close-minded and go like, “ew why the hell are you listening to that!!” But I have to admit I’m a little bit of a hypocrite because I would totally say that to a friend if they listen to that emo/punkish music screaming. But yeah, I swear if you put on music to the Chicken Dance, I’d probably bob my head to it (I wouldn’t go as far as to actually do the dance though).

If you asked me what I would wear back then, I would tell you shirts with cool/elaborate/swirly designs (think Ed Hardy-ish even though I’d NEVER EVER wear that now), runners, sweats, etc. etc. But then I WAS still in school then so comfort was probably the first thing that would’ve came to mind. Now, I won’t wear sweats if I can help it out to anywhere but the gym and same with runners. Okay, well I admit I do have my extremely lazy days when I would wear them especially in the summer, and those are usually accompanied with no make up either.

If you asked me what kind of architecture/interior design style I liked a year ago, I would’ve told you modern, industrial or anything that looked “futuristic” and shiny with a lot of blacks, whites and metals. Now, my dream home is an old Victorian mansion or a French-Creole style mansion in New Orleans’ Garden District or the French Quarter all complete with aged furnishing from those old eras and elaborate finishings and details. I remember my favorite field trip when I was young was to the Government House in Saskatchewan and I would feel totally at home there. We went to the Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria last weekend and walking around the restored rooms was so eery and fascinating; I would die to live there in the late 1800′s when it was still occupied. Too bad we walked through it so fast because I wanted to read everything! I can’t wait to go back there again so I can absorb as much as I can.

And I would LOVEEE to live in New Orleans. I think I’ve been obsessed with it after reading so many Anne Rice novels.

Anne's House

I think I went through a phase where I thought I was too “cool” to like this old stuff and anything that wasn’t “mainstream” but I’m glad I’m totally over it. There’s nothing more fascinating than old castles with secret passages… and a ghost.

I think the only thing that didn’t change about me are the books that I’ve read and will read.

I’m maturing to be a total queer and I love it.
